I am wondering if this could be me. Positive ANAs for years now, on and off (some times in the multi-thousands) and increasing insulin resistance despite lowerig A1C (recently diagnosed as pre-diabetic) |
I got an A1C in the prediabetic range, vaguely tried to eat healthier but didn't really do much TBH, and subsequent ones have all been normal. My last glucose tolerance test was actually low. I kind of wonder if the prediabetic one was a fluke. |
Oh happy for you! I’m really hoping the same for me. -OP |
Do you eat a lot of carbs? Total, not net? Grains, starchy veg, beans?
Do you eat a lot of fruit? Do you take any meds that impact glucose or insulin? Common ones include bcp, mood or anxiety meds, bp meds, steroids, allergy meds, including Flonase? Google anything you take? How is sleep? Apnea can greatly impact metabolic health. |
Yes. All sugar matters and all starch, whole grain or not, is chains of sugar. |
You may want to try an OTC CGM such as Stelo, but there are others, for a few weeks to see how your individual body responds to different foods, sleep and exercise. They are FSA eligible.
I found walking for 10-15 min after a meal very helpful, the data was actionable. |
Why? If you're already living a "healthy" lifestyle, it is what it is. There are skinny type 2 diabetics. My Mil is 4'10 and probably only 80lbs and became type 2 after having BIL. Very tiny, active and healthy woman. It happens. |
What an idiotic response. “Why?” Because I refuse to accept it and I’ll fight like hell to change whatever I need to in order to avoid getting diabetes. -Op |
I just want to throw in one other explanation because this happened to me, too, at around the same age, weight, etc: perimenopause. There is a connection between hormones and blood sugar control and hormonal changes can start throwing things off. I was considering Metformin but what actually reversed my prediabetes was the estrogen patch. |
I started on metformin to see if I can delay the inevitable. I retest in the summer. It really, really sucks to have a so-called lifestyle disease that I have zero risk factors for and will shorten my life. But that’s life! |
Wow, interesting!!! |
On metformin for same reason as well. |
I was about to post this! A1C is something my menopause specialist tracks (mine is fine, but it's a sign of perimenopause). |
Could you please recommend your menopause specialist? Is she local? My OB does not take my concerns seriously. I’m really wondering if this is why my A1c is elevated, and I want an expert opinion. I’d really appreciate the name of yours. -OP |
Statins raise A1V if you've been on it long. Lab error is very real too. Just relax go get tested again and don't freak out til later. |
