Exactly. |
Wrong. I know many, many private school families where both parents work -- and too hard, leaving the house empty for drugs and sex -- and many public school families with a stay at home parent. |
Uh…I was referring to crazy evangelical schools or Madrasas schools that exist in the US and literally don’t teach anything beyond religious nonsense. Kids are barely literate and learn nothing of Math and science. Maybe use the 1/2 of your brain that still works next time. |
Many of the private school kids in my neighborhood are complete a-holes |
I think this is especially a risk in DC where there's so much wealth and so many arrogant parents. The private school kids I knew growing up were just as nice / kind as any other kids I knew. But here in DC, there's such a cultural divide and cult of "self-made" selfish parents that I think that it's a real risk when you group a lot of entitled kids together. That said, I encouraged my son to apply to private school and he didn't. I don't think it's inevitable and I don't think it's every school. But I think it's something to guard against. |
I have seen the most ridiculous made up things promoted and taught in public schools and I'm someone who is nowhere sympathetic to evangelicals. Just sayin' Also, you won't win friends by insulting people. |
Yes! I know people whose kids are taking out loans for college, but they went to k12 private school. If I were their kids, I would appreciate no loans more than private school! (And their public school is totally fine!) Seems very irresponsible to me. |
Wow...I've lost you as a friend. It's just that I thought it was clear when horrific private schools were mentioned, that I wasn't referring to reputable schools like Gonzaga or Visitation or St Anselms or the like. Once more, if you are fine sending your kid to a Madrasas school or the Christian equivalent, then I guess you wouldn't understand. |
Are you Asian? |
It really depends on the school, classroom, grade level, etc. I do know one family had to suddenly leave our class and since it's early in the year and a lower grade, they might add a student but it has to be the right fit. |
No. My children attend a private boarding school in England. We will be fine. |
Are you in imminent threat of being laid off? That's what OP posted. |
"It’s just a better well rounded experience k-12." LOL...says who?? Wow, the marketing dept of your kids' private school certainly did their job. I have plenty of friends whose kids are at some well-known private schools in the DMV area. There is nothing they experienced during their K-12 years that my kids didn't get at public school except perhaps smaller classroom sizes and hanging out with a bunch of kids of similar socioeconomic backgrounds. And those parents paid dearly for that. Meanwhile my kids had a great experience at K-12 public schools and are killing it in the professional world. One went to Wake Forest and now owns a IT business and the other one went to Navy is no longer in the military and is a real estate developer. |

My kids didn't go to private school or Stanford or attend TJ, but they have employees working for them that did. |
