No, not at all. This is a bad time for our kids to mingle with the lower class. Also, public school will get worse after this administration gets rid of the department of education. |
And if anything, the rich parents don't want their kids "punished" so it gets pushed aside/hidden. |
Or maybe they don’t have the cash to pay off a house in the DMV? Even then, they should not pay off house. Keep the money OUT of the house. It’s called liquidity. |
Well the goal should be to save up enough/invest enough so that you can be mortgage free. Doesn't mean you have to pay off your 2% mortgage. But if you don't have the ability to do that as you approach 60+, then retirement might be a challenge |
I would never fault any parent for being willing to make sacrifices for their child’s education. I could assume that their job was stable and they banked on career advancement and future income. At the same time getting admitted to a private is not easy, so they are good parents and value the education their kids receive. There are plenty more ways to criticize someone else’s parenting than talk about private school. |
We kept our kids in public school until we had enough money in savings so that if we were laid off at 50, we would never have to work again. That took until our kids were in 7th grade. |
The easiest way to get into the Ivy is from a low performing rural school where you are tutored by your educated mother. You hardly invented that. There are a lot of other factors including your own child’s happiness — I was in a rural high school and hated every minute of it. |
This is ridiculous. Most people need a job to earn money and pay bills. Sure, you should have 6months to a year of expenses in case you lose your job. But to not put a kid in private because you need a job to pay for it isn’t stupid. It’s life. If OP can’t get another job in 6+ months, you may need to make other choices. |
It's not a luxury if you have a kid whose special needs aren't adequately supported in public school. |
You are so gross. But thanks for stating plainly what most of us already knew: private school is about snobbery and classism, not obtaining a quality education. Also, if you can't see that the Department of Education is one of the biggest failures of all federal agencies, you better buckle in because the next four years are going to be very traumatic for you. |
COPE harder. I went to private school and my kids are in private school. I can assure you any school I would consider would not have fights or any other similar behavior. |
That's nonsensical. For example, we can do food and shelter on one income, but private school requires two - which means losing a job affects our ability to pay tuition. By your logic, we should just never spend any money unless we're wealthy enough to pay tuition without working at all. Just admit you don't like your kid going to school with families who who draw a salary. Investment income or gtfo, right? |
Don’t put your kids in private school. It’s a complete waste of money. My three kids all went to publics and then went on to graduate from top 20 universities. They are killing it in their careers. |
There are no layoffs coming except for a small number of feds. Expect government contractors to increade hiring 1.5 people for every Fed laid off. Work is not going away. |
