Dylan is a genius. You probably don't get it

I might not get it. I am a classically trained pianist and have played Chopin, Between, etc. the hardest pieces in addition to studying composition, harmony, accompaniment, you name it.
I think his lyrics are great, I just don't like the wailing sounds of the voice.

Agree, he doesn't have a good singing voice.
Neither did David Bowie, but Bowie wasn't whiny.

What? David Bowie had a beautiful voice. -NP

No he didn't. Couldn't hit high notes. Mostly a low growl.
There is a difference between shouting and singing. Think Florence Foster Jenkins.

I thought this was a movie I could leave to streaming, but was wrong. It's basically a concert movie, and so lots of fun to see in a theater. Highly recommend going to see it!

I was in cape may when they were filming! I loved seeing it!

Yes, def thrown. My family house is in the film (in CM)

Good lord. If you watch the above video and come away claiming DB couldn't sing, I'm sorry - sounds like a you problem.

If it wins an Oscar - could increase the value of your home? Anyway, nice bragging rights …

I am posting lyrics but not the person you were arguing with. Although I do find it ironic that you post such lame “I’m not interested” comments in a thread about the recent Dylan movie. If you are not interested, why post at all?

I am posting lyrics to keep the focus on his brilliance as a poetic song writer. I was bit disappointed in the film (that was still terrific for the historical references and general acting) for not exploring BD’s human side enough … but I feel like his lyrics do that.

If the lyrics are great, we will find them. No need to force them on people. That just makes people less likely to give them a chance.

The person who claims BD is uninteresting just has nothing else to do. They're lame and will never get his brilliance.

No one is forcing you to post pointless and inane “I’m not interested”comments on this thread. Just look away.

At least PP’s lyrics are relevant to the thread.

Also those lyrics were minimal highlights and barely scratched the surface of BD’s 40 studio albums, 21 live albums, 17 volumes of The Bootleg Series, 44 compilation albums, seven soundtracks as main contributor, 24 extended plays, 104 singles, 61 music videos, and 17 music home videos.

DP but I love the opening to Highway 61:

God said to Abraham: “Kill me a son.”
Abe said, “Man, you must be putting me on!”
God said “No!” Abe said, “Wut.”
God said, “You can do what you want to but
Next time you see me coming you better run.”
Abe said “Where you want this killing done?”
God said “”Out there on Highway 61.”

Cool - apparently highway 61 is the highway that goes from Minnesota all the way to New Orleans and cuts through a swathe of traditional gospel blues music country …

I did not claim that, I am the pp that claimed I don't like wailing voices, in general. I did find it strange that the movie made such an interesting person somewhat boring. That is not Dylan's fault though.

I am wondering whether the BD song “Like a Rolling Stone “ (from where the name Complete Unknown was derived) was written about Joan Baez. It came out around the same time they broke up maybe due to his fame eclipsing hers. It seems to be about phony self righteousness of a bougie bohemian woman getting harder to pull off as she gets older ….

I’d even say Neil Young over BD. Clapton or NY> BD movie

I find it hysterical that some Bob Dylan non-fan is spending their afternoon commenting in this movie thread about how they are not going to watch this movie and how they aren't interested in the thread. Hey, we're another 2 comments further down in the thread -- think they are interested in it now? Nope they will choose to read more comments here and then comment about how they aren't at all interested in the comments they just read. LISTEN, they are ABSOLUTELY NOT INTERESTED in these comments that they have been reading and will apparently continue to read. What about this comment? Is this comment also completely lacking in interesting and beneficial information for you? Let us know, please, it's really important that you do lol. GET ON IT!

I think it's supposed to be about socialite Edie Sedgewick who later died from drugs etc at 28. But often songs can be about more than one person/influence from the writer's life, so who really knows?
