You cannot tell everything from a GPA for example what if the 3.2 takes calc BC or Linear and also AP Physics and languages? What if they take four years of the hardest courses in core areas? I have seen parents going on about a 4.0 and later find their kid not not only didn’t take calc BC but didn’t take four years of math/science/language and had APs in soft areas like psychology. |
This doesn’t apply to Sidwell because it doesn’t offer AP classes. It’s also not applicable because the curriculum is generally rigorous across the board, so the floor is usually higher than at other schools. Of course, there are exceptions to the general rigor (eg., lowest track math—the “B” classes that will have the student taking statistics as a senior). No matter how unserious you are as a student, you will work hard or have terrible grades at Sidwell. |
You have not heard a lot of Sidwell parents “going on about a 4.0.” A 4.0 GPA is not common among graduating Sidwell seniors. There are some years where no one graduates with a 4.0. |

GDS is doing well this year - They still look stronger than Sidwell this year, but they are not killing it like last year when they had an astounding number of tippy top admissions: many Harvard (6) Princeton (3), etc.
The hysterical posts from Sidwell parents on this thread seem to indicate these parents think Sidwell still has the best record overall despite the fact last year, both St Albans and GDS did better. |
Based on GDS’ and Sidwell’s IG accounts (STS’s doesn’t exist), Sidwell is doing significantly better than GDS (per usual) when it comes to college matriculations. If one is able to count, the truth is obvious. STA’s college placement is underwhelming. Its website indicates that it only excels at sending students to UChicago. Sidwell does well at UChicago and every Ivy, which isn’t something STA can say. STA hasn’t sent a single student to Penn or Brown in the past 5 years! Penn sent 6 students to Penn LAST YEAR (2024). https://www.stalbansschool.org/about/meet-st-albans |
Sidwell sent 6 students to Penn LAST YEAR (2024). |
STA sent 2 kids to Penn from their class of 2023 that I know personally, so that’s not true at all. |
Yes, i have no idea why someone has a bee in their bonnet about STA but it's really weird. They are quoting facts that aren't true. STA sent two grads to Penn in 2023. The entire community knew these kids. It's pretty creepy that internet weirdo from outside of STA is saying that they don't actually exist. |
No, you’re lying. STA’s own website says otherwise. |
DP. So, STA sent 2 students to Penn in 2023. According to the link, the school still sent 5 or fewer students to Penn over a 5 year period (same for Brown). That’s not impressive. Maret has about the same number of STA students and its Ivy numbers are much better than STA’s. |
No it doesn’t. That’s not a comprehensive list, just the “top colleges over the last 5 years.” Not every college over the last 5 years. |
Why are you on here talking about STA? The title of this thread concerns the Big 3. STA isn’t a part of the Big 3. |
If true, I stand corrected. STA hasn’t sent more than 5 students to Penn and Brown over the past 5 years. That’s not good. And you will never convince me it’s because STA students just don’t want to go to those two Ivies. |
"Tippy top?" What are you, five years old? |
