Two years is not too bad for this early time |
Our bus pickup time is 6:15. 6:45 would be a dream. |
NP and my kid has the 6:45 time currently and she’s my youngest. Here’s why it’s not that bad. You adjust. It’s only two years. You realize FCPS has A LOT of days off. Look at this month alone. They start asking if they can stay home on half days and you say yes even through you never imagined you would agree to that. Your kid with perfect attendance wakes up not feeling well more, because it is soooo early, and you are fine with them staying home as long as they get their work done. They probably don’t feel well. You get enough middle school. |
9:48 again and hit submit too soon. I get ready early, drive her to the bus stop and go to work early. I see many parents doing the same. The silver lining is traffic is much better then and I do less work at home in the evenings. |
Dr Reid sucks. Got our hopes up for nothing. What a joke. |
I"m not sure I understand what you are saying here. Are you agreeing that 6:45 is not good or saying 6:45 is fine and it's okay to let your child stay home a lot? Your post makes no sense. |
Why are you driving your child to the bus stop? How bizarre. |
I drive my kid to the bus every morning. Its a mile away and dark and he can sleep an extra 15 minutes. This is very common. Pickup is 6:25 am. |
Do half mile walk in the dark? No lighting at the stop on a major road? 30 degree temps in the dark? Rain? A lot of that is mitigated if your kid is picked up when the sun is up. |
Isn't reworking bus schedules now irrelevant considering the possible scope of the cmprehensive boundary review and implementation? Remember Reid 's a fan of 6-8 middle schools? In fact used the phrase "where possible" for implementation. Then there are the possible AAP at all middle schools so having staff come up with transportation changes would be temporary. |
How much did we pay the consultant for this study that will yield no results? How much time did parents waste by participating in meetings and filling out surveys for community engagement? There was never going to be a feasible fix for MS start times because we don’t have more busses and drivers and can’t get them. |
Maybe post-boundary in a few years, when we have less students being bussed long distances, transportation won't be quite the same sticking point it is today, and we'd be able to revisit the feasibility of implementing later MS start times. |
Apparently my post didn’t make much sense. The reason I drive is because I go straight to work and it’s on the way. Other than that, it’s dark and there aren’t sidewalks. To answer the other poster, the point of my post is that 6:45am is a pain but you get over it. Yes, I let my kids stay more more often than I did when they were in elementary. They had almost perfect attendance back then. Now I don’t care as much. |
Wow that's so lazy. |
Come back when you have a middle schooler and let us know if your kid goes after the first couple of half days. It’s much different than middle and high school. I’ve experienced both. |
