| Prison walls literally wrap around prisoners on all four sides. It's actually one of the few "wrap-around services" that has proven effective at reducing violent crime as opposed to just handing out lavish contracts to well-connected friends and family of DC politicians. |
I think it starts by everyone actually admitting that the culture is dysfunctional. Not that we’re forced to celebrate it or we’re racist. |
| Also, if you say that people are kids until age 25 (and therefore can’t be held responsible for their crimes) then they shouldn’t be allowed to raise children independently either. There should be group homes for pregnant young women where there are strict rules and everything is monitored to ensure the babies are being looked after. |

Sorry it’s the culture.
You can’t fix them until you fix that. |
UBI would fix it. It would teach responsibility. |
| No. Follow the rules of a civilized society or be institutionalized. Stop wasting money on wraparound services and build and maintain humane institutions for those that cannot live by the rules. |
It would do the exact opposite. DC basically already has UBI with all the free housing, free food, free childcare, free spending money, plus no more policing of antisocial behavior. The skyrocketing violent crime speaks for itself. |
Oh, you misunderstood. It would teach the government and upper class responsibility. |
You don't make any sense. Bottom line, all the free handouts and leniency is why DC has become such a cesspool of violent crime and vagrancy. People need to take responsibility for their own actions. |

Dads in the home.
Discipline. Accountability. Learning right from wrong. Many people around the world grow up in poverty but they are not murdering harmless disabled senior citizens as 12 and 13 year old girls. |
|
Work ethic. Work for what you have. Helping out your neighbors. Values. Jobs for 16 year olds. Learn to respect senior citizens. Learn manners. Give back to the community. Respect. Respect others. Respect others property (i.e. cars).
Positive role models. The problem is many who make their way out of some of these housing communities are glad to be out and living in a safer environment and don't give back. |
| Discipline in the schools. Respect for teachers and administrators. Suspensions. Mandatory parent conferences. |
Giving more money simply lines the pockets of plastic surgeons in Miami. Many fly to Miami for their $6000 plastic surgeries. |
I have some employees who grew up in generational poverty. They hate their mothers. Their mothers had them at young ages and just yelled at them throughout their childhood. Their mothers become disabled in their 50's through strokes and/or morbid obesity. The government provides free caregivers for their mothers. At some point personal accountability and working jobs needs to be the priority. |
Which is precisely what the Jesuits and Cristo Rey schools teach. Another idea: adopt a mandatory service for all high school grads. Two paths: two years in the military, or two years doing peace corps-esque jobs domestically in the US. Provide housing, education, and modest pay. Use high school like the reserves: weekend opportunities to camp and learn skills. Build houses. Whatever. I think everyone would rather invest in those government programs. |
