TikTok holdouts

That’s interesting. Why don’t they want it? I’m only asking because most teens do want it. What are you doing and maybe that can help the rest of us. Thanks.

What does this mean? And does it apply to watching all videos on your phone, from whatever platform?

The end, where they show the TikTok logo in a kind of swoosh along with that sound effect, really bothers me. I don't really know how to explain it - it's like nails on a chalkboard. Also, many of the videos have unnecessary sound effects that I dislike intensely. The food ones are the worst, with those horrible crunching sounds as they open packages.

As for videos on other platforms, sometimes they bother me, but nothing like the level of auditory abuse I find on TikTok. TT videos have too many instances of alternating loud and soft noises that I find disturbing. I can deal with it if the video content is good, but so much of the content on TT is rubbish, so I avoid it.
Ah, ASMR videos. Yes, I hate those too. DD loves them, so her YouTube feed is full of them. I scroll past, so I don’t get many of those on TikTok, if any. The logo thing is only on ads. It’s not added to every video on the platform.

I don't feel like I actually need it because I have three people in my life who curate videos for me and send them to me😂

I'm in Cyber and as long as you don't post, you're actually really fine. Consuming it is fine but posting can reveal sensitive locations and details you don't want public.

My daughter thinks it's addictive and doesn't want it. My son just doesn't see the need for it.

I say this sincerely; it must be excellent parenting on your part, because they are being bombarded with it from every angle.

I don't have it. Also don't have Instagram. Still have Facebook, but only on computer not on phone. Not holding out per se, just too old and lazy.

DP. My teen and all of her friends were really into TikTok in middle school, but it’s really not a thing for them anymore. Most seem to have moved on to Instagram. It seems kind of embarrassing to still be into TikTok. Mine’s not on any social media, fwiw.

It's "passe." What about Snap?

I never had it, never will. My DS agrees with me but DD caved.

My husband and I are not and neither are our kids. It’s absolutely the worst.

Anyone actually join after holding out and have thoughts and feedback about your experience? I wonder if it is inevitable that we will all be on TikTok at some point anyway.

Not on TikTok. I've never even clicked on a link to TikTok.
I've never been on Twitter either.
Deactivated Facebook about five years ago.
I do have an Instagram account for my dog but am considering deleted that too.

No Snap either??

I’m not on TikTok. I’m 34. I waste enough time on Instagram and have no desire to join another social media platform.

I don’t even know what that is!
