Can I sue Callie Oettinger?

That is such a joke and unrealistic. FCPS is required to keep paper files in the vault. How can paper binders/files be password protected? The vault room is locked and only accessible by few staff. Also, electronic files in sea-stars (special education file) is only accessible to the assigned team (sped teacher, principle, related services). Access to sea-stars is password protected via VPN. You don’t know what you are talking about.

If they did, they would have spent the money on it last time this happened.

Nope. FCPS didn't "willingly" hand it over--it was accidental. And made more likely to happen by the endless badgering for information by Callie in an already stressed public school system. The real crime is that Callie "willingly" shared that information with others and published it online.
Unintentional leaks don't allow you to do whatever you want with the goods. We can sue Callie who intentionally acted wrongly with information AND we can lobby for better privacy protection. I think it's incredibly important to punish her and to deter people who think they can act with impunity with data that doesn't belong to them because they have some cause they are invested in.

It seems you don’t care that FCPS has no process to ensure this doesn’t happen. I don’t know Callie, but at least she scrubbed the data. What happens next time when a nefarious character doesn’t?

Again, misdirection by Callie - this actually implies Callie isn't acting nefariously.

She did not scrub the data. RIGHT NOW I can see info on a kid that went to our small elem. We are in Burke, all the elem are pretty small. So easy to identify. I'm trying to find my kid now, since I have the letter.

for someone who "cares about kids", this is ridiculous. FU Callie.

But clearly they were not password protected, if roughly 20% of FCPS students had their supposedly "password protected via VPN" personal information given to a parent with no security measures in place.

It sounds like Gatehouse is on this forum trying to deflect blame, when ultimately FCPS is at fault.

FCPS has known about this for over a month now, at least since early October.

Why are they now just notifying parents, 2 months after they became aware of their mistake??

They knew about this before the school board elections. Did they hold off from notifying parents because of the election?

They knew about this the entire month of November and the first week of December. Did FCPS try to time mailing these letters to arrive after school was out for break, so they would have 16 days for parents to cool down before they had to field calls and emails?

FCPS has a lot to answer for, not just that they gave away this private information and violated FERPA, but also how long it took to notify parents of their mistake.

FCPS should pay too- I've never said they aren't at fault- but Callie is horrible person. Can't wait for the inevitable school board run.

And I said I found it online- but I'm not going to link to peoples personal info

Clearly you don’t either as if this were true the files wouldn’t have been accessed by a parent.

This is the huge piece of misinformation in this situation right now. People think that she put thousands of students’ information online, when in fact it is not there.

I never said she put thousands of kids stuff online, but I'm sure she did. Without much effort I found information on many kids in the Lake Braddock pyramid. What actions taken. Did they have lawyers. Did they get $$ comp.

I haven't gone through the whole behemoth. And no, it isn't on the front page of her site screaming "kids" It is enmeshed in the articles and links. But hi Callie. You still suck as a person.
