Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS)
Wherever possible, MCPS tries to move 1 ES to to 1 MS, 1 MS to 1 HS. It is not always possible, and sometimes you need to split 1 ES to 2 MS, for example. This is called split articulation. |
There is a chance. People are discussing the possibility of that region in the last few pages. Nobody knows what the odds are. |
If MCPS wants to put diversity as the top factor, then stone mill has a high odd to be moved as it has 50% Asians. Otherwise, wootton is more than 200 seats under enrollment. Moving Rio to crown would open up more seats in Wootton. So it makes no sense to move any wootton parts out except Rio. |
When MCPS is factoring diversity, they are not looking at Asians. They do not care about the number of Asians either way. |
Of course they do. Wootton is being looked as not diverse because about 40-50% are Asians (or aka not enough AAs and Hispanics). Pulling stone mill away will make it more diverse. |

For anyone to suggest that Rosemont or College Gardens or Washington Grove should move to Crown is seriously crazy. Those boundaries need to shift east where there is existing capacity, not west. If space is such an issue at RM, then Magruder HS can take 194 students. Rosemont and Washington Grove are under Gaithersburg HS, which can shift students north to Watkins Mill HS which has 169 capacity.
Similarly, Richie Park ES (also West MS / RM HS, but on the same side of 270 along Wootton Parkway within walking distance of Wootton) should rightfully be moved to Wootton HS. That also frees up slots for students closer to Crown on the same side of 270. That makes way more sense than moving College Gardens ES (on the other side of 270) to Crown HS. |
I think there is likehood of college garden moving to Gaithersburg then rosemont (or other Gaithersburg ES) to crown. That would increase diversity of all schools. Moving Ritchie park back to Wootton is counterproductive for balancing diversity. |
? If you look the map, CGES neighborhood is closer to where Crown HS will be than Macgruder or GHS. They'd have to cross 370 to get to GHS, or 270 to get to Crown. Six of one, half a dozen of the other, but Crown is closer. And since Crown is being built, they aren't going to shit CGES to Macgruder. |
What PP meant is that MCPS counts Asians as white (not kidding) which is what I think you're saying as well. That's offensive but not as offensive as having 2 bins: cares about education and doesn't care about education which is at the heart of the diversity argument. |
Looks like someone working at 850 Hungerford is licking their chops? |

Crown has a projected capacity of 2200.
WALKERS (How many is this?): There used to be an interactive planning tool where it was possible to determine the number of students within this boundary? I don't know how many children this actually is. 1- Rio portion of Fallsmead (Wootton HS). 2- West boundary of Forest Oak MS (Gaithersburg HS). Helps reduce a Top-10. 3- West of 270 portion of Julius West MS (Richard Montgomery HS) - Key West / Research Blvd area. Helps reduce a Top-10. 4 - A small triangle from Frost MS (Wootton HS). A smaller group. 5 - Ridgeview MS / QO - Fields Road ES portion. Reduces a Top-10. AFTER WALKERS CAPACITY ISSUES TO SOLVE: #1 - Quince Orchard HS -478. SOLUTION: Pull from both: (A) Lakeland Parks MS (both QO and Northwest HS) - Reduces overcrowding at two Top-10 overcrowded schools. Feeds ~ 350-400 HS students per year into QO. (B) Ridgeview MS (QO HS). Feeds ~ 250-300 HS students per year into QO. May not be necessary to pull from - depends on exact # pulled from Lakelands Parks MS. #2 - Northwest HS -383. SOLUTION: Just pull from Lakeland Parks MS until both QO and NW numbers balance out. Once you get to this point, there isn't that much capacity left, so I think Gaithersburg, College Gardens and Rosemont are off the table. #3 - Richard Montgomery HS -368. SOLUTION: Excluding walkers and Richie Park, omit from the study. (A) Magruder HS can take 194 students. (B) Richie Park ES (also West MS / RM HS, but on the same side of 270 along Wootton Parkway within walking distance of Wootton) should rightfully be moved to Wootton HS. #4 - Gaithersburg HS -184. SOLUTION: Excluding walkers, omit from the study. (A) College Gardens ES / Rosemont ES is under Gaithersburg HS. Gaithersburg HS is adjacent Watkins Mill HS which has 169 capacity. MIDDLE SCHOOL CAPACITY ISSUES: In moving the northern portions of Cabin John MS (Wootton HS), CJMS would likely lose about 400 to 500 MS students. Ridgeview MS (178), Hoover MS (107), Lakelands MS (80) currently has 365 Middle School slots excess capacity. OPTION A: CJMS can regain up to 350 students (500 - 157 Churchill overcapacity) by shifting Frost and Hoover MS boundaries (to backfill CJMS). In turn, Hoover and Frost can absorb the remaining 150 CJMS students. OPTION B: CJMS pulls a smaller amount from north, and the remainder from the east (WJ overcapacity is projected at 692, but Woodward should correct this?). |
OMG that's sooooooooo racist!!!!! |
Neither Magruder nor Watkins Mill have been proposed for inclusion in the study. |
A lot of wishful thinking there. |
