Those boundaries need to shift east where there is existing capacity, not west. If space is such an issue at RM, then Magruder HS can take 194 students. Rosemont and Washington Grove are under Gaithersburg HS, which can shift students north to Watkins Mill HS which has 169 capacity.

Similarly, Richie Park ES (also West MS / RM HS, but on the same side of 270 along Wootton Parkway within walking distance of Wootton) should rightfully be moved to Wootton HS. That also frees up slots for students closer to Crown on the same side of 270. That makes way more sense than moving College Gardens ES (on the other side of 270) to Crown HS.

? If you look the map, CGES neighborhood is closer to where Crown HS will be than Macgruder or GHS. They'd have to cross 370 to get to GHS, or 270 to get to Crown.

Six of one, half a dozen of the other, but Crown is closer. And since Crown is being built, they aren't going to shit CGES to Macgruder.

Looks like someone working at 850 Hungerford is licking their chops?

? I live in the RPES cluster. CGES is closer to Crown than GHS. That's just fact.

And children might be tempted to cross a very dangerous road known as Interstate 270. The first time a kid tries walking home I hope the person who approved it is arrested for negligence. Part of the reason why parents want proximity is for it to be safe for their children. Something that apparently MCPS has forgotten about?

Ummm... we have overpasses to cross I-270. What do you think, kids are going to run across the highway?

Not to mention that we already have kids who live west of 270 attending RMHS, and I don't think any have died crossing 270.

Exactly. We have a bus
And who knows where that bus will take your kids after MCPS rezones. My guess is Rockville or Gaithersburg high schools. Good luck!

? you mean Rockville HS or RM? Rockville HS is not part of any of the boundary studies. Are parents afraid of their Wootton kids being shipped off aaalll the way over to RM? Or are you thinking the Damascus expansion will include parts of GHS? It can't include Rockville HS. It's way too far.

Tha Damascus expansion is intended for relieving Clarksburg HS overcrowding.

Has the BoE voted on the scope of the Damascus boundary study? It probably would make sense to include Gaithersburg HS and Watkins Mill HS as well as Clarksburg HS and Damascus HS. And some of the other current elementary school and middle school boundaries are bonkers too, for example Neelsville MS, where the "now that our kids are supposed to go to Neelsville, we strongly believe the whole school should be shut down!" people have gotten their ostensible wish of a new Neelsville MS building. Or South Lake ES, which also has bonkers boundaries, and renovations.

Not yet. My guess is that they'll combine both of the big studies and then decide to do a districtwide boundary study and redraw everything.

I’m in luck, I’ve got “BoE expands scope and delays everything another year” on my bingo card.

That would be the best outcome for the county. It’s about time that the BOE has the spine to put an end to the segregated schools county-wide

They are focused on bringing up diversity at schools with less than 5% up to the county mean. This will mostly impact the w's but likely decrease busing since the current boundaries are so gerrymandered.

I hope they do complete a boundary study on the entire county.

Where will the Churchill shedding come from? What areas are at risk?

over capacity vs. under capacity
or
overcrowded vs. undercrowded

undercrowded isn't a thing. PP was correct in their use of the terms.

"At risk" isn't the term I'd use, but areas which are currently bussed to Churchill could potentially be bussed to a different adjacent school.

Then at risk is absolutely the term for those students. Wouldn't that lessen the diversity at Churchill, though?

C'mon - think. Depends on who gets added to Churchill.

If you're bused out of your current school to a school with a higher chance of being shot in a bathroom just so white progressives can feel like white saviors, that's definitely "at risk."

They will. They can't wait to show everyone how progressive they are.
