Ms. Loft is a good principal but should be irrelevant to what's happening at Westover. This isn't about the school not taking action, it's about the police not arresting these kids instead of just having a friendly conversation with them. It's about holding the parents accountable.

Assaulting senior citizens off school property not during school hours isn't an APS issue. It's an ACPD issue.

The problem is that the parents aren't disciplining, and the police are staying out of it which means that there are zero consequences for these kids. Throwing eggs at an 85yr old woman isn't just bad behavior. Sorry not sorry, it's not.

22203 Swanson family here! There have been so many disciplinary problems the last year or two, glad DD is moving to HS next year though we’ll see if it’s any better.

Exactly. It should be a crime but it’s not. There are no consequences these days for simple assault like this. And kids are no longer disciplined, or held accountable for their actions.

Did APS get rid of SROs? I can't keep track who did (ACPS) and who didn't (FCPS) anymore.

I believe most if not all the other DC area public school districts brought SROs back after removing them (or never removed them). There is no movement or desire at the moment to bring them back in Arlington.

The police aren't going to arrest if the owner doesn't wish to press charges. Maybe track down that 85 yo lady and see if she'd like to have them charged with assault.

It's still criminal behavior but that won't matter if the prosecutor won't prosecute. But we don't know what happened here. Maybe the victim didn't want to press charges.

Police could still go to patrol Westover, doesn't have to be an SRO.
