Yes the overall acceptance rate last year was 17%, and OOS was lower. So clearly everyone is getting in.

Michigan is way more popular nationally than UVA. It receives double the applications and has a higher yield without using ED to achieve it.

Well, gee, maybe that's because it has over double the students at 52K. UVA is 24K. And Californians and west coaster apply to UVA because it's warmer. Four fifths of the 57,000 applications to UVA last year were OOS.

I highly doubt many Californians would apply to UVA. When my kid was attending UC, his classmates had not heard of UVA.

UVa is crawling with California students right now. Perhaps perceptions changed?

According to UVA for fall 2023, there are 276 undergraduates from California.

Michigan had 2541 undergraduates from California in…..2019. I’m sure it’s even higher now. Almost 10 times as many from CA attend the campus in Ann Arbor as compared to Charlottesville. Not in the same realm of popularity.

I would choose Michigan over UC Merced as well.

276 from 40 million population state.

UM's total enrollment for fall this year reached 52,065 students, up 2% from 2022. Furthermore, the school's undergraduate enrollment rose 3% to 33,730 students from 32,695 last year.

UVA only has like 12k undergrads which is a lot less than half of 34k

Except for the fact that it has about 17K

That’s funny. I would chose UC Merced over UVA.

So between 6 to 7 percent. That’s significant. My uva kid says there’s a lot. Considering UVA takes only 30% OOS and Michigan takes 50% OOS they appear to be equal. Or you have to conclude apples and oranges on the % of OOS because of the huge disparity in IOS percebtage

False:
1). Michigan takes 50 percent OOS; UVA only 30 percent. Not comparable

2) Michigan is more than twice the size of UVA at 51,000 students (including graduate students)

3) a lot of students like myself don’t want a school as large as Berkeley, UCLA or Michigan. That’s where UVA fits in

1) 10x as many students more than makes up for the difference in percentages of OOS

2) why does that matter? We’re talking about undergraduate numbers

3) You’re trying to make UVA into an SLAC.

The fact is that Michigan is way more popular in California than UVA.

17,600 undergraduates of which 276 are from CA is around 1.6% of the study body. Maybe you were referring to percent from OOS (5,700) in which case it's less than 5%
