Do you judge parents who still impose a bed time on older kids?

I don’t understand parents who provide no reliable day-to-day structure for their kids. Isn’t that called neglect?

You do understand that bedtime is not the only way to provide structure, though, right? It seems like you don't, so here are some things that provide structure that don't require people to tell other people whether they're tired.

Family meals
School
Daily chores
Team or group activities
Jobs
Church

People have very rigid benchmarks for success on this board. For example, teens are only independent if they make their own doctor appointments. If you make his appointment and your kid drives himself there, this doesn’t qualify. It also doesn’t matter if she holds a job, etc.

The flame throwers are out of control on this forum. I don’t have the time or inclination to judge you or your kids.

I am PP with 9:30 lights out. I don’t need to enforce. My kids have asked me to help them
set up a schedule for them so that they can get enough sleep and do their work outs, sports activities, homework, etc. Yes, they are using me as their personal assistant. I am fine with it.

They wake up at 6 am to work out, do their chores, shower, and get ready for school. 9:30 pm lights out/electronics off is reasonable. They just follow the “rule.” In evenings where they have to go to bed later than 9:30 (practices, heavy homework load, etc), they just go to bed later. But, overall, I follow the 9:30 rule.

I judge when parents attempt to lower a bedtime that has been established for more than a year.
