Union=mafia, but owners organizing themselves into a corporation is fine? How about we force every shareholder to negotiate individually with each UPS driver to determine how much they’ll contribute to the driver’s salary? Regardless, if UPS can just automate, your dreaded wage price spiral won’t happen. So why are you complaining? |
There's a fine line between strong arming and not being exploited. I'm not a union expert, but I'm watching the writer strike and I also know that unions are why we have a WEEKEND. Even if it's not called a union, I'd like to see white collar workers band together for improvements. |
UPS is paying their CEO $20 million a year (and that's before fringe benefits). The idea that paying a driver $100k is massively overpaying but paying a CEO 200x that is not is frankly bizarre. |
This. Why is the CEO worth 20 million? That dude has never even done the most important job in the company. I wonder how many times he taken a ride in them hot a$$ trucks in summer? |
+100000% to the above comment. |

The country desperately needs CDL drivers right now. If you're so upset about this, I definitely encourage you to go work for UPS. The country needs UPS to be functioning well so the rest of us can live our lives as easily as we do. |
You can still go work for them… |
Great! Go for it! Literally no one and nothing is stopping you. |
And I don't understand why y'all think this is crazy - what did you think all that online ordering of crap was going to do, all that grocery delivery, etc etc.
It is just like paying for the convenience of all other outsourcing you DCUMers do... Also it IS a very hard job - not everyone is hired as a union worker on top of that. UPS has gotten around having to pay and adhere to the union's requirements by hiring non-union positioned drivers... It is physically demanding and a lot of injury occurs - those drivers aren't really working past 45/50 max. |
I'd definitely argue that UPS driver is way more critical to society than a Costco shelf stocker. That said, if Costco needs to pay 100K to adequately staff their stores, than that's what they need to pay. Capitalism at work. |
So much ignorance. Those “mafias” are why we have any worker protections today. Too many DUIs so you can’t get a CDL? I can see why you’re mad. |
+1 The people complaining about capitalism are probably the same idiots screaming about ‘Merica. |
Literally all the things you listed, except maybe landscaping, are 'valuable' work. Let me know how a roof installed by a cheap and uninsured amateur works out for you. |
They literally drive around in vans without doors in over 100 degree weather, here in California. They lug heavy ass packages all day for people too lazy to carry their own cat litter. Pay them what they want!! |
