So margins are not “compressed” now? Which means this will not lead to a wage price spiral? But there will be a wage price spiral if a recession comes? I would be careful about throwing around the term idiot if I were you. |
Such irresponsible reporting
Stating "$170,000" without details |
It sounds like more like $100,000. |
Not "everyone" had to get the GI bill for it to forever change education and the impact of education on the job market. Almost half of the 16 million returning vets took advantage of the GI bill's education benefit. The college market was literally flooded with students who were not of the upper class seeking a degree. It changed everything. The changes in the value of a college degree, now compared to, oh, say, 1939, or even 1955, are vast and the causes are not "simple," I agree to that much, but the GI bill is what started it all with a huge push. |
So what? If this is what UPS needs to pay to get and keep people in the job, that’s what it’s worth. |
Yet it’s necessary for our society to function. Unlike your fine arts degree. Come back here when you order your school supplies on Amazon and they say the estimated delivery time is November |
+1 It’s called capitalism. Want to make that much money? Work on your driving skills and try to get a job. |
This. People responding sound so ignorant. A job is worth what it takes to keep someone doing that job well. If the job isn’t necessary, and no one will do it, then it doesn’t matter. The wage can stay low. If it’s necessary, and people will only do it for a high wage, then it’s worth that wage. If people were willing to do it for minimum wage, then that’s what they’d offer. So, thank Bezos, but delivery drivers are incredibly necessary for our lives and if they have to pay that wage for anyone to want to do it, then that’s what the job is worth. Go be a UPS driver if it sounds so cushy! |
Who cares? I’m a teacher so I will earn if I move from teaching to ups driving. |
Great! A new career choice opened up for you! |
Costco shelf stocker is also required for society. You gonna pay them $170k too? |
This isn’t the USSR. There’s no central planning committee that’s sets wages. |
You know who's not here b**ing? UPS drivers. You know who's on DCUM? Lawyers, Feds and IT workers earning 200+ and just being a waste of space and complaining about that blue collar workers earning six figures is an abomination. |

What school supplies? Based on salary schools are unnecessary for society. |
No, but there is the mafioso organization known as unions strong arming companies into massively overpaying for unskilled, uneducated labor. UPS is relishing the day coming soon when they can automate this hugely overpaid jobs out of existence. |
