Metropolitan DC Local Politics
Well no they're not. His education policies enable the desires and preferences of some parents to overrule the desires and preferences of other parents. As a parent, you want schools to be prohibited from doing X. As a parent, I want schools to be allowed to or even be required to do X. When Youngkin prohibits schools from doing X, that's not a parent-centered policy. |
That's absurd, PP. We have lots of rights to do things that harm another person. For example, I have a right not to donate my kidney to a person who needs a kidney and is a perfect match (I even have this right if I'm dead). I have a right to drive a car on a street where people with asthma live. I have a right to use my noisy lawnmower which keeps my neighbor awake who works nights. I have a right to advocate for defunding a support program another person depends on. I have a right to persuade people not to spend money at a private business whose policies I disagree with. I even have a right to make hypothetical people feel inferior by refusing hypothetical requests to design hypothetical websites for them. |
Yes, but I do have an inherent right to determine who is and is not allowed to use my organs. I even have that right if my decision results in the death of another person. I even have that right if my decision results in the death of another person and I myself am dead. This is pretty basic, and there's widespread societal agreement about it. Even people who, in public, want to deny other people the right to determine who is and is not allowed to use their organs, will in private make decisions exercising that right for themselves. It's a well-known and common phenomenon called "the only moral abortion is my abortion." |

I’d get it fixed if I were you. You’re really off base once again. He has a long and bright career ahead of him.
Doing what? And where? And for whom? He's evidently good at enriching himself - is that what you mean?
Predicting he will be in national politics within 10 years, tops
He’s been prominently sniffing around running for President and his gubernatorial race was totally nationalized already, so that doesn’t make you a Nostradamus. He’s in national politics NOW. |
5‰ raises for state workers. Repealed the grocery tax, reduced to 1% for now. |
Huh. In Maryland, the grocery tax is 0%. |
Our public school system shouldn’t be run by thousands of (ignorant) parents. We hire pros for a reason - to make it student/school centric. Parents are welcome to homeschool if they have specific educational wishes. |
My right to bodily autonomy and personal liberty. It doesn’t get trashed over a potential person. |
We still have a few Democrats in the commonwealth legislature that think it is a good idea to tax people for eating. |
Oh yeah. They’re “pros,” alright. |
Well, I'm a Virginia parent. I would like my children to be taught sex education (and none of that abstinence only crap), I would like them to learn about our country's history of systemic racism, and I want them to have access to books with queer characters, and I think there should be gender neutral bathrooms in all schools so kids of all gender expressions feel safe and supported. Are you good with that? |
No I’m not. And I’m a VA parent too. It is my job (and yours too, except you seem all too willing to shirk it) to teach my kids about sex, including that abstinence only crap if that is in line with our values. |
Then send them to Catholic/private school..you have a choice. No one is forcing you to send your kid to a public school. If you can’t afford it, then work harder. Isn’t that what you all say? |
What policies? Can you name one? |
| He's a creep and I can see why Mom's for Liberty would support him. I am sure their first meeting was at Ofglenn's house. |
