Sure, if you support sick policies like this:

We don't need bigoted, callous people in our government.

I absolutely support this, thanks for asking. We also don’t need our state government facilitating sexually explicit chat rooms between anonymous adults and our minor children. Which is exactly what this web site is/ was

If your minor children are googling "website for LGBTQ youth contemplating suicide," then you better hope one still exists.

Are you kidding? If my minor children are googling something like that, I’d “better hope” they’d be taking to me. If you would throw your kids to the wolves - any random person who happens to be monitoring a chat room- for a discussion like that you’re out of your mind.

Your kids aren’t talking to you about this stuff.

You sound so smug and certain. How do you know what my relationship with my kids is like?

If yours aren’t talking to you, I’m sorry. Having the internet raise them is not a good substitute. Work on being a parent.

DP. In my experience, parents who believe their minor children are their property - vs. individual, independent people in their own right - typically don't have a good relationship with their children. You can try to control them when they're still dependent on you, but once they're out on their own, they make their own decisions, including whether or not to continue having a relationship with you.

Wow. Really sorry your experience is so grim but this is not typical.

Wanting to protect kids from predators Online is neither controlling nor trying to own them.

Well, there you go. Where most people see a Virginia Department of Health webpage offering resources for LGBTQ youth, you see "predators online" threatening your children. That sure sounds controlling to me. But it doesn't matter for you what I think; what your kids think is what matters for you. And you can't control what they think.

That is some stunning political analysis, PP. Who would have thought that getting 51% of the vote would lead to success?

I am a parent, and if my child is contemplating suicide, I absolutely think there should be an online resource for them to chat with someone anonymously if they think it would be helpful. And if they're reaching out to one, they obviously think it would help. It isn't mandatory, you know.

It is interesting, though, that you believe the GOP-led Virginia government is filled with sexual predators. Given your GOP's history, I understand your concern, but it's still disheartening.

If that's what you're afraid of, then you need to make sure that your "minor child" doesn't have a smart phone and never has access to the Internet without your supervision. Most parents aren't that controlling, but some are.

Given the attitudes you have displayed on this thread, I don't think I am going out on a limb suggesting that if you had an LGBTQ child, they most definitely would *not* be talking to *you* about issues they might have.

Now LGBTQ youth seeking help with suicide issues online will only have access to less reputable, more shady resources than the Virginia Department of Health webpage, and that's what's important (if your goal is to prevent LGBTQ youth seeking help with suicide issues from having access to reputable resources).

Some of you truly must have horrible relationships with your own children. That is the only thing that explains this level of projection.

No, my minor children are not “terrified” to talk to me, or my DH, about anything. If your’s are that afraid of you, I’m sorry.
