I wish the Muslim hadn't jumped on to proselytize because there's so much that can be said about how Jesus in the NT and the Quran are NOT the same people. It's hard to let the simple "we're the same it's just that you guys got it wrong" pass without comment.

For one thing, the Quran's Jesus endorses that book's general position against nonbelievers, Christians and Jews. Including violence, which is something the NT Jesus never endorses.

Quran (9:29): “Fight against Christians and Jews until they pay the tribute readily, being brought low.”

Quran (5:51): “Don’t take Jews or Christians for friends. If you do, then Allah will consider you to be one of them.”

Quran (2:65-66): “Christians and Jews must believe what Allah has revealed to Muhammad or Allah will disfigure their faces or turn them into apes, as he did the Sabbath-breakers.”

Quran (5:51): “O you who believe! do not take the Jews and the Christians for friends; they are friends of each other; and whoever amongst you takes them for a friend, then surely he is one of them; surely Allah does not guide the unjust people.”

Quran (9:30): "And the Jews say: Ezra is the son of Allah; and the Christians say: The Messiah is the son of Allah; these are the words of their mouths; they imitate the saying of those who disbelieved before; may Allah destroy them; how they are turned away!"

I could quite a bunch of crazy stuff from the Bible as well.

Religions were created by man.

But you can't post violent stuff against nonbelievers from the gospels, in fact the best you're going to do is "turn the other cheek." Too bad you're so desperate to fight religion in general that you're unable to follow simple points.

Yep.

You'd think OP would post again if they weren't an atheist troll. Or maybe they are busy, or afraid to post given how this thread has shifted, with multiple Christians accusing them of being a troll.

Op has not posted again.

op has not explained why they attended a church that closed during the pandemic but now can’t find a church to attend.

Op? Where are you?

I take the OP's post at face value. They said they became disconnected during the pandemic and now have struggled to reignite their faith - and haven't found a church that does that for them. What's so difficult to believe about this? Seems about right to me.

because if op posted asking for help and opinions and advice- why would they disapear?

Because DCUM is full of raging psychos?

that post fake threads so
they can argue about a God they don’t believe in

Maybe it was a fake thread, but I think people gave really great ideas for people who are losing faith. Especially the one about Buddhism.

Anonymous wrote:OP, I get where you’re coming from. My health counseled a stricter and longer lockdown than many others had. I continued my personal devotions and watched services on television that helped me maintain at least some feeling of community. Together, these also helped me maintain a sense of God’s presence in my life.

I’m now back to “live” worship in community. It is hard. I’m still “three years ago” in my mind and still taking precautions and wearing a mask. Everybody else seems to have moved on long ago. All my “jobs” have been taken over by others and nobody seems inclined to invite me to return to them. I feel much more a spectator and much less a participant than before covid. It is very hard.

I’m trying to remember that it takes time for a fire to reignite. I’m trying to be more outgoing than it would be my normal nature to be, to reconnect (or connect in the first place with new people). I want to get back to the after-service social, but I’m still wary of covid. I could ask for a “job” but I’m timid, partly because of the weakened sense of connection.

Most of all, I’m trying to be patient and do things in God’s time. The way to handle “spiritual desolation” is to just keep showing up and asking God for a better connection. Sometimes it is better for things to go slowly. When Muslims break the Ramadan fast they often start with soup so as to not shock their system with too-heavy food. The spiritual life can be the same.

I’d suggest you pick a place and keep showing up. Try to identify in. Try to get to know people. Try to get involved. Pray on your own. Ask God for Faith, which is a gift. Give it a reasonable time, say six months. If it isn’t working then you can try somewhere else while remaining connected to the first place at least until you’re well-established in the second.

OP here. Thank you very much for sharing this! This is good advice and I will try to follow it.

1.) Try having a personal, private conversation with your minister or priest. I was really scared to do this, but he was very gentle and encouraging and didn't make me feel bad about my lapses.

2.) Love someone else's suggestion of music.

3.) You could try a different church, or a different service at your current church.

4.) Do some volunteering.

5.) Take inspiration from someone whose faith is very strong. I have a family member dealing with a significant health issue right now, and ALL she wants is for people to pray for her. That is really meaningful. Maybe prayer "works" and maybe it doesn't, but I am moved by that level of faith.

OP here. Thank you for this!

I’ve been praying on and off for a year but I feel no answers. I’m discouraged and starting to feel hopeless. I can’t find a church that feels right. I’m struggling to get back on track by myself and it’s not working.

How have you dealt with spiritual lapses? Do you have any advice for re-connecting with God?

OP, I'm sorry this happened to you. It also happened to me. We used to attend services every week before the pandemic. Even though services resumed in person pretty quickly (especially compared to other places), I found that the masking and distancing regulations (which were necessary for health and safety) made the communal aspect of the service much less enjoyable (i.e. coming together, but staying apart from each other is not really spiritually uplifting, but instead just highlighted for me everything that was different, even in the same space praying the same words). My spiritual needs also changed during Covid, partly because Covid itself changed me and partly because my kids have grown up.

Partly, I hoped that going back regularly would get me back in the swing of things, but it hasn't. I don't really have any answers for you, but know that you're not alone!

op isn’t here. Your post means nothing because op is a troll.

OP here. I promise I’m not a troll. I didn’t mean to make this about covid. It was probably more about a change in my church leadership that coincided with covid, but covid seemed like the more understandable reference point. Sorry for poking that bear. I don’t like the covid debates either, so I understand your response.

Only when someone said OP. Could not possibly be Buddhist.

There is no reason why OP could not go in that direction.

You cry “shit show” when the answer is anything other that exactly what you believe.

Attacking Christianity and Christians by obsessively posting fake scenarios in a religion forum shouldn’t be a personality, yet here you are.

It’s not an attack to tell Christians to look in to Buddhism, I know many nuns and priest who study Buddhism.

DP. Yes, Christians study Buddhism and some Buddhists (like Thich Nhat Hang) look into Christianity.

You're so dishonest. The issue is when some of you post about how all religion is man-made, fake, etc. As you know.

It’s not a claim, religion is created by man.

Name a religion not created by man.

How did you come to that conclusion?

All the books, rules, writing, teaching are made by man. Can you name one that was not.

It can be inspired by god. I also think art is inspired by god.

So what’s your evidence that all religion is man made?

let me explain it like you’re in kindergarten.

The sun is made by god, a car is made by man.

Nature is made by god’s , books are made by man.

Morality is made by god, rules and regulations (religion) are made by man.

pp, you refuse to answer if you believe in a God or gods, but keep explaining that a God or gods made everything.

Is that correct?

Why are you ducking this question?

I said I believe in 1 god.

Allah and God are the same entity.

So why does the koran say that the people who believe Jesus is the Son of God are going to be sent to burn in hell for eternity?

Christians believe Jesus is the same person as God. Jews and Muslims do not.

God speaks to different people or through many different avenues.

Also you need to separate religion from god.

what religion are you that separates God from religion?

A man dies and St. Peter is showing him around heaven. He say “shhhh” while we pass this area. The man is quiet and a few minutes later St. Peter begins to speak. The man asked, why did we have to be quiet? St. Peter says oh that’s the Catholics section they think they are the only ones here. Don’t ruin it for them..

Heard that when I was a catholic kid. Thought it was funny.

I have spiritual lapses, but they don't happen from not going to church. More something that makes me question my faith. Usually what happens is something occurs that again makes me believe - a positive event.

Yeah. God never promised everything on earth would be peachy. He never promised every prayer would be answered in a way we would like. He never promised that we would always be happy here on earth.

I get it gets hard to keep going in times of crisis or when things get rough. But if you are a Christian and your goal is salvation, you have a goal that isn’t dependent on earthly situations and those situations can be viewed from your Christ centered perspective.

Not to discount suffering- it’s real.

I’m Catholic. We learn that god speaks to us through our soul not from the pulpit. Priests are just one way to learn about god but they are fallible. The pope is also fallible unless he speak “from the chair”.

Through prayer and meditation god will speak to you through your soul nit your ears and your brain

We are busy and soul. Our busy is imperfect our brain has an ego and is full of sin, it’s only when our soul is louder than our brain that we are truly connected to god.
