What, exactly, is wrong with going to community college? |
W&M |
And yet, it’s absolutely true. It is the height of *entitlement* to presume that your kid is so special that s/he deserves admission to any VA school (or any school anywhere). They don’t. As the PP said, there are highly qualified kids all over VA and your kid is competing with them. |
Wow, one rude comment after another. How about you move along until you can be civil. |

Pick a new word. It’s grossly overused. |
This. My DD is at VCU and we’ve been impressed so far. Nice, bright kids. Good professors and facilities. A lot of the kids my DD is friends with are first generation college or middle-middle class families. Also seems to appeal to kids who want a more diverse atmosphere - the top Virginia schools are very white and traditional/preppy. Not judging as I attended a school like that, just observing. Some kids, including my DD, seem to like a more laid back and diverse atmosphere. I think VCU positioning itself to capitalize on kids not getting in to the top tier schools - they are investing a lot in engineering school for example and other STEM. May also be to attract more male students as I think it leans towards majority female students currently. |
Here’s the list of the 40. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_colleges_and_universities_in_Virginia |
Professors have lesser qualifications. Not very marketable for summer internships at all Most importantly: cannot obtain a 4 year degree there. |

Again, I think there are spots at state schools for VA students - many just feel anything below JMU is too crappy for THEIR child ;p
God forbid their snowflake have to consider Mason, VCU, UMW or CNU Longwood, Radford or ODU? Oh, the horror! |
LOL, ROVA...that's a good one. Just remember anything south of Fredericksburg is a bunch toothless rednecks. |
Richard Bland College, a 2-year residential college affiliated with W&M. |
Ah yes! Thank you! That was actually one of the first ones I thought of, but I started out trying to make the list in some type of geographical order...it didn't quite workout that way though. |
Is not a university. The poster I quoted specifically said universities. |
No, it's not. It's a list of colleges and universities in Virgnia. The person I quoted specifically said universities and that was in a response to public ones in VA. So again. what are these 35 PUBLIC UNIVERSITIES IN VA? Community colleges are not public universities. Private schools are not public universities. There are NOT 35 public universities in Virginia. |
