Murder of Robert Wone on Peacock

I remember being so confused when my friend called me weeping to tell me Robert had been killed. It just didn’t make sense. I watched episode 1 last night and had the same sense of disbelief I’ve always had about how in the world did this happen to Robert.

Yes, similar experience. My memory is that those who were close to him were shocked and devastated. Surprised more people don't seem to know him, but it's been a long time.

I went to college with Robert. We were in the same wide circle of friends but we weren’t close. But several of my close friends were very close to Robert. They were all understandably devastated by his death.

I had dinner with Robert and his wife - and a mutual friend from W&M - a couple of years before his death. They seemed like a lovely couple.

Like many others on this thread, I hope Robert gets justice one day. He was such a kind and decent person. It’s unfathomable that this happened to him.

I wonder if Robert was aware of his friends' kink and how the house was known as a go-to BDSM destination.

What about the kids? Were they raised in this house?

This documentary is so creepy. One thing I don't get is why they're making a huge deal out of how far it is from DC to Oakton and how late it was, and that he couldn't get a cab. It's maybe a half hour and was only 9:30. I think he went there not because he needed a place to stay but because Price lured him with a sob story of how he needed to talk.

Sorry, how he couldn't take metro. Why not get a cab?! That part is weird. He had no reason to stay in DC. I think Price gave him some weird sob story.

A cab would be pretty expensive for someone who just joined a nonprofit.

Good point. Couldn't his wife pick him up at the Dunn Lorin or the Vienna metro stops? It would have been at most a 10-minute trip for his wife. Does make sense he was lured.

The kids lived with their moms in Silver Spring. Not in Dupont.

I believe Robert was a part of Joe's "vanilla" life. Spouse, lawyer, etc. But then there is Dylan...

He had reached out to someone else too, about staying over, a female, who said not a good night. Joe said sure. It was quite last minute. If no place to crash turned up I'm sure he would have gone home.

I think he was combining working late and CLE with a chance to do a quick catch up and socialize with people he did not see often.

It wasn't that the travel was impossible.

As a younger lawyer at the time this happened, that piece made sense to me (altho as a now 50 yr old, I see your point). We worked crazy hours in thise days and the idea of getting back to Oakton at 11pm and then needing to be up at 5 to start all over again, I would have appreciated sleeping in DC once in awhile! I remember more being surprised that he lived in Oakton - I recall most people our age at the time still living in DC or closeby Arlington, etc.

It would be fantastic if somehow the renewed attention around this documentary were to cause one of the killers, or one of their accomplices if any (the brother who burgled the house, maybe?) to crack and confess and explain what happened. I don't know how double jeopardy laws or statutes of limitations would affect the ability to arrest and try any or all of the three, or any accomplices. But it would be satisfying for someone to pay for this crime.

I believe that there was a consensual BDSM type of sex between Joe, Victor and Robert that have gone horribly wrong with Robert ended up dying by asphyxiation.

Joe’s communications with Dylan showed they were looking for a 3rd to do BDSM play that and Victor wasn’t expected to come home until his plans changed. Victor’s not into BDSM. The presence of Robert’s semen is crucial. This makes me think that he was probably operating on a “down low” with his wife. This happens everyday in real life,

The manner of death was probably due to erotic asphyxiation. The stabbing was staged. They did the stabbing after asphyxiation gone wrong, cleaned him up, put his dress on (remember no fiber of his shirt was found on the knife) put his mouth guard in, put him in bed, and then Victor freaked out, got everyone riled up causing him to call 911.

That law partner is a sociopath. Where is that cvn t now?

There used the be a blog that tracked the three housemates. If I remember correctly one of the attorney housemates moved to another part of the country and found another job practicing law. Then someone ‘outed’ him to his employer regarding his involvement in this case and he was no longer with them.

I think the other two also moved away from this area.

It was many years since I read that blog and I’m not sure if it still online.

Here is one blog. There is an interesting theory in comments

https://whomurderedrobertwone.wordpress.com/the-defendants/dylan-ward/

If by "interesting theory," you mean "completely unsupported speculation," than sure. Moreover, the other two points in that comment demonstrate unequivocally that the poster has no idea what he or she is talking about.

1) lack of interest by the media & police

The poster obviously wasn't here at the time. This was a HUGE news story, and the police devotes significant resources to it.

2) connections of the 3 suspects (1 being a laywer, all 3 being wealthy)

The idea that a junior partner at Arent Fox has the connections to duck a high profile murder charge is really laughable.

Looks like a friend of the roommates found this thread.

Speaking of erotic asphyxiation, didn’t Anthony Bourdaine die that way?

"The manner of death was probably due to erotic asphyxiation." I guess you didn't read the full autopsy report/coroner's report. Also, you have just breezed by all the injection marks on his body. And the fact that Robert was straight.
