Not PP. I expect it is sourced but the source is a third-party estimate from years ago. |
Also in Baltimore. Possibly not 100% but close. I knew a couple similar to the bolded who were very, very vocal about sending their (at that point theoretical) children to the local city school, and how awful it is when people don’t support the neighborhood school, and just lots of “social justice ally” posturing in that regard. Welp, they had a kid not long after that…guess what school she doesn’t attend? |
Quite common, especially in the part of McLean north of 123. Somewhat less common in Great Falls or McLean south of 123. |
There are at least 30 DC area privates, which would account for 17,000. There are also families who send their kids to boarding, which is also a small but significant number. |
Interesting. My parents sent me to private so I didn’t have to go to rosemary hills. |
Also Baltimore area and we did public for as long as we could stand it but are now switching to private. I probably should have listened to friends who encouraged us to buy a house in hoco for the better public schools, but once we got settled in we didn’t want to move. |
I think it depends on the parents more. We inherited our home, didn’t buy in. We are far far less affluent than our neighbors. |
| NE DC - I'd say 10% or so for elementary. Parents send their kids to the charters. You see things break off at middle school. Many families don't stay, but if they do more than half attend privates. There are a lot of families here who will preach public schooling until they're blue in the face then bail for private as soon as that promotion or inheritance comes through. |
Interesting… wonder why that is. Maybe because it is more affluent? |
There must be more than 30 when you include Catholic schools. There are lots of Catholic schools, likely with tens of thousands of slots. |
Resurrecting this thread. This was super interesting to me! Is it because it's easier to get to the District and the schools there? |
Also intersted in this. What private schools are people in Jamestown and Nottingham attending? |
| How does anyone know this? You know everyone on your block? |
| It has definitely increased. 30% at least in Great Falls. Only about half actually go to Langley |
| Bethesda (inside the Beltway). On our block it was 90% private last year, some housing turnover, so now about 75%. |
