swim parents: Why is NCap so expensive?

This is OP. I wish we could swim at Machine- I really do think, after extensive investigation, that it is the best team in this area. Too far away for us, sadly

We are now Machine swimmers and beyond thrilled with them. What a warm, supportive, kind team. My kid is thriving and happy. The Laurel location is actually very easy for us (we're in Silver Spring) and U of MD on the weekends is such a fabulous facility. If you can at all swing it, take another look at Machine.

What site did you leave and what age group is your swimmer?

Interesting. We have several swimmers on our team who left Machine after having bad experiences.

Which club are you at now?

NCAP family here with only rave reviews. The coaches are terrific, the workouts are solid, and the atmosphere is healthy for the kids with just the right amount of challenge to not over or underwhelm them. My kids are thriving and we wouldn't go anywhere else.

I think this is pretty common in swimming, some clubs and coaches are better fits for particular kids than others, so people move around to find a situation that is best for them. People looking to join a club should definitely check out practices for the group their kid is looking to join at each of the clubs they are interested. What works for your kid’s super competitive above-average swimmer friend may not work best for your kid.

It depends on the facility. We left NCAP because it was just going through the motions. Promotions seemed to be based only on age and most of the kids were barely improving. The program at the pool our kid went to was smaller, so maybe the larger ones are better.

One of the Fairland coaches left and many of the better swimmers left if they could find a spot elsewhere.

Let me guess: You’re at West

Agreed- so disappointed with our current location! Yes, we will switch!!! Prospective families, do your homework! Quality varies wildly by site and group!

Different poster - not at West but could say the same thing about our location.

I’m not the PP, but we are at West and yes, it’s as great as everyone says it is.

It's not that easy to switch sites within NCAP.

Well then we will switch to another team all together. It's insane, given how large a team they are, that they don't let swimmers change locations- what's the point of having such a huge structure?

What they really need to do is have an "elite" group where the fastest swimmers from each site go to- unless of course you are at West and get lucky all the way through with great age group and Open group coaches from 10 and up.
