My husband was a jock and is not into toxic masculinity, and the SA and SH rates in tech are abysmal. There is no pattern except entitlement. |
I was talking more about the phenomenon of threatened males resorting to violence. The fixation on the US here is pretty ethnocentric. It’s a global phenomenon — white men in the USA are generally a LOT more enlightened when it comes to women than men in many other cultures. |
Obviously. We are significantly more socially progressive than KSA, China, India, etc. no one is arguing that. But where the US stands relative to other countries doesn’t change the fact that white men - in this country - have huge mental health issues that are not being met. I argue that it is bc they have told from childhood that they MUST be alpha male and anything less is failure. Oh, and they cannot cry, show weakness or any emotion. The male emotional intelligence is nil. This is where Andrew Tate comes in |
That’s true for a subset. But it’s sort of a trope that white men’s mental health needs are underserved. This is still all very much fringe, freak stuff, well outside the norm. |
? Something is wrong if white men 25-34 are the primary source of suicide, hate groups, incels, etc. the more we brush it off, the bigger it gets. The stigma in mental health is real. We are raising the boys wrong |
Again, this is fringe activity. It’s a bunch of freaks. Losers. Yes, it’s an annoyance but it’s not like a widespread problem. And honestly it’s not really anything new, it’s just that social media makes it easier for them to connect. |
| His whole plan only works with you giving him free room and board. If he wants to be a big CEO he needs to pay rent. |
I’m sorry but I think you’ve lost the plot. Tate had 12B views on TikTok before takedown. That’s not fringe. Rogan is the largest space on Spotify. Musk needs no explanation. These guys aren’t fringe, nor is their message. Do you know an US HS male? Ask him who he follows. And his friends |
This^^^ It’s is not fringe. Women being raped and killed is not fringe when it 1/4 minimum |
I'm not sure why your panties are in a bunch? Is it because you're an incel or because your hubby or son is a nerd? Regardless, you are missing the point. There isn't necessarily anything wrong with nerds. The nerds are doing quite well. The issue is why young men gravitate towards this content. And the person comparing Joe Rogan to Andrew Tate is totally clueless. |
| Tell him feminine guys get the most female attention. Show him how much attention BTS gets. |
We have a son who seemed to be going down a similar path a few years back. Tate wasn’t a thing but misogyny and get rich schemes were a theme. We hit it hard and direct. And we made it clear that we were not supporting anyone with those sort of values. He was free to do and think as he saw fit but we were not obligated to support him and we were choosing not to. I actually think having the entire family confront every single bigoted and misogynistic thing out in f his mouth was what got through to him. Unlike OP, I felt that the risk of destroying my relationship with my son was worth it and I did not allow my fear of this to guide my actions. |

My son got snagged into one of those e-commerce things. Google drop shipping--it's the pyramid scheme of the 2020s. Also google the abysmal losses reaped by people who tried to get in on it. If it's not drop shipping, be ready with links to whatever scam it is.
If your son wants to drop out, then he needs to support himself. Full stop. No help from you, period. You most certainly don't waste your own money buying this Tate class for him, and be sure to tell him exactly why, complete with links to anguished failures. The e-commerce gig will almost certainly fail and he'll wake up and want to return to college. Best would be if he tries this over his summer break so he can return to school in the fall. Next best is takes a sabbatical (or whatever the college calls it) instead of dropping out. Then he can return to college when the e-commerce is over. |
| There used to be a guy named RooshV who would basically talk about how to sleep with numerous women overseas. He had a few books and a message board prior to doing a 180 and turning religious. I'm sure some of his content was bordering on misogynistic. But people consume content for different reasons and don't necessarily buy everything that the content creator is selling. For example, RooshV had tons of great travel information. Yes, a lot of the information revolved around getting laid. Having consentual sex certainly isn't immoral. But like anything, it depends on how far you take these things. Do you compulsively lie to women? Are you disrespecting women? Are you unable to form relationships with women? Just because someone doesn't conform to your views/lifestyle doesn't mean they are immoral. You have to look a bit closer at what they are actually doing before passing judgement. |
Yep. Not fringe. Look at his follower number. It's frightening. White men -a good many of them, not all of course- have always been born midfield while everyone else is at the starting line. Now they don't have the same sort of privileges and expectations they've always had. Politicians don't all look like them. Women are in positions of authority and have their own independence. They view it -again, many not all- as an attack. And they lash out. People raising boys need to do better. And if mental health is part of it, that needs to be fixed for everyone. |
