What is your 13 year old daughter getting for Christmas?

Anonymous[b wrote:]SO many 13 year olds getting a ridiculous amount of makeup.[/b] Perhaps because in my country this is not a popular thing, but I find it very strange.

And make up refrigerator? This is the most American thing I've ever heard of.

So many boomers demeaning the younger generations, but completely forget their own.

80's kids wore a TON of make-up. A TON. Blue eyeshadow, gross dark lipstick, etc... Not to mention leather mini's, candies, tons of costume jewelry accessories, high hair, and hairspray. My middle school pictures show almost all the girls in make-up, jewelry, and high hair.

Middle school girls have more natural hair, tend to do light on the make-up, and they were sweats or pajamas to school almost daily. Why in the world would you complain about this generation????

+1 I love my sensible, non-materialistic teen girl so much. I’ve never even heard of most of these things.

Seriously. I’m so happy I have a nerdy bookworm who isn’t into name brands. She’s almost 13 and not on social media yet so maybe that’s part of it.

It's a huge part of it.

I grew up loving labels and we never had social media. We had magazines, commercials, and just looking at others in school and what was trendy. So pls stop on the social media

there will always be a reason some girls want trendy things and it is ok to normalize it. Guys are no different. 90% of them want Jordans

This is unhealthy materialism. Stop normalizing it.

Give me a break. It's been going on for 50+ years.

But it is the social media these days, because kids don’t read magazines or watch commercials. Different medium but same idea.

That was the whole point of the PP's post. It hasn't just started because of social media. It's been around forever

to the adults criticizing kids loving things that are trendy or name brand- they are trendy for a reason lol. I have fun talking about trends and getting excited over things with my DD.

I can assure you she doesn't want the Amazon and Bath and Body Works dupes. Brands matter a lot to teens! We all remember what it was like at that age and how much it meant to have the right clothing/shoes/products.

And sugar "matters a lot" to toddlers, yet most of us know our responsibility is to redirect them towards healthier preferences.

Shockingly my 13 year old daughter is a voracious reader and the head of the math club at her school AND wants Lululemon and expensive lip gloss.
What box should I put her in?

I’d say the Cooper or private school box.

Ignore them. They are the same misery lovers who found the pandemic to be NBD because they hate movies, restaurants, concerts, parties, kids’ sports, Disney, and talking to other humans.

- Ryse loaded protein powder in the flavor chocolate PB cup (I got this for her, and she says it's delicious)

- Lightening McQueen crocs
- Jordan 4s
- Jordan 1s
- New Balance 530s
- Uggs ulta minis

- Dior Lip Oil (cherry) - This seems to be a thing
- Sol de Janeiro Brazilian bum bum cream and body spray
- Laniege lip glowy balm
- Laneige lip sleeping mask
- Ariana grande eau de parfum

- Aerie crossover flare leggings
- Lululemon define jacket

basically my daughter's list minus the crocs. Where is everyone finding Jordans? They're impossible to find, especially the black and white ones. Why isn't Nike making more oft these things??

Have you tried Goat? That’s a popular site to buy Nikes.

Yes, have seen it pop up. Is this reputable, as in not a scam? I just don't understand why you can't buy these directly through Nike, like the AF1s.

You can get them on eBay…just get the ones with an “authenticity guarantee.” Those are sent to a third party for verification before they come to you, so you don’t buy fakes.

Not kids’ sports and Disney. The rest I quite enjoy.
