What is your 13 year old daughter getting for Christmas?

Anonymous
An iPad. She's never had one and I'm looking forward to this gift.

The rest is kind of filler- knitting needles, caramels, necklace, hair mask, stocking stuffers/candy

+1 I love my sensible, non-materialistic teen girl so much. I’ve never even heard of most of these things.

Lululemon, Athletica and Nike are major athletic/leisure brands. There are stores all across the United States. Sephora is in most malls- cosmetics. Uggs is a shoe brand. They’re famous for their cozy sheepskin slippers & boots.

Thanks, yeah, I’m aware of those. I was referring specifically to the specific cosmetics mentioned. Brazilian Bum Bum cream? That’s marketed as a firming and lifting cream—“Use it on your bum bum, legs, tummy, arms, and anywhere else you want a visible lift and glow.” Who are you crazy people buying this for a 13 year old?

Hoodie from a sport team she likes

She wants a Lululemon top but I just think that’s over the top.. Lol. Or should I go for it??

Is there really a price difference between Athleta and Lululemon that makes one appropriate and one over the top? Our DD loves Lululemon, but only has a top and two pairs of shorts.

There is a HUGE price difference. Athleta ran a 30% sale on Black Friday on all their clothing which is already half the price of the stuff at Lululemon. They currently have a 30% sale on all their marked down items. My teen would love Lululemon stuff but even she knows a workout shirt shouldn't cost $80. I think I'll get her an item for Christmas but it's just seems over the top.

Ohhh. Well, you said you hadn’t heard of most of these products. I’m not sure what the Bum Bum item is however, in our household, Christmas is for silly indulgent “dream” gifts. My guess is it wouldn’t be used that often. When I was 12 I got a huge Estée Lauder palette the size of a board game. I was beyond thrilled. I hardly used it, but I still remember it fondly. 😂

DD got a set that has 3 products (including the cream) for 30 odd bucks. She likes the smell of it. She isn't using it for "visible lift and glow" (she knows that's utter nonsense), but as a body cream because she likes the smell. The same way she likes the smell of her bath and body works lotion. She wants Chanel No. 5, because she likes the smell of it. Hope you can see a theme here.

You can get cocoa butter cream for $10 or less and it smells the same. Or go to Bath and Body works and pick a scented cream you like.

I mean give me a break on the smell. It has everything to do with the price

Bum Bum Cream doesn’t even smell that good.

Give me a break on telling other people what they should do. Not pp.

Get her the Lululemon jacket and Sol de Janeiro bum bum cream if you can afford it and your DD is a good kid. I can assure you she doesn't want the Amazon and Bath and Body Works dupes. Brands matter a lot to teens! We all remember what it was like at that age and how much it meant to have the right clothing/shoes/products.

*shrug*

You should parent your children however you see fit, and allow others the same courtesy. Personally, I cannot do cocoa butter. The smell is very offensive.

Are you trying to rationalize getting expensive butt firming cream because she likes the smell? She likes the name as a way to show off. The End

You know, this is a thread to share gift ideas. If you see a product you disapprove of, keep it to yourself! Teenagers have different interests. One is not better than another.

Have you smelled it? I has an overwhelming smell it should really take the place of perfume, nothing at all like cocoa butter cream. I find it noxious but I can totally see the pre-teens/teens being really into it! Like us drenching ourselves in Bath and Body works sprays back in the day. I totally see it as a smell thing not price.
