What is your 13 year old daughter getting for Christmas?

This has got to be the DUMBEST post I have ever seen on DCUM - and there are some real trippy ones on here

I loved fashion growing up, and it was so important knowing my parents understood that.

I am not vapid or materialistic. I have a PhD, a great job, great DH and kids. And I have a wonderfully close relationship with my parents today. Having the right brands gave me a lot of happiness and confidence growing up, and I don’t know if I would be who I am today if my parents had been stingy or judgmental.

You don’t know who you would be today if your parents hadn’t bought you the Juicy sweatsuit you wanted? Some of you aren’t making the cases you think you are. Also, can we stop equating love for fashion with love for whatever mass produced trendy thing everyone else is wearing? Not the same.

+1. So many cringe statements in here, funny.

I figured out my daughter just wasn't asking for things she wanted. I think it was negatively impacting how she felt about herself to not have the "cool" things. I told her it was OK to ask for things. I also told her we might not be able to buy everything she wants, but it's OK to ask and talk about it. I had noticed she was looking at a lot of sneakers, jewelry etc but never asking for them.

For Christmas, she is getting some of the things she wants - Uggs, jewelry, nail stuff etc. And thanks to this question, I bought her lip oil ($10 Ulta brand because I didn't want to spend $40 only to find out I picked a bad shade).

There is nothing wrong with a teen liking what they like. I want my kid to be comfortable in her own skin and feel accepted by her family.

DD is getting a Caribbean trip this summer and scuba certification class to prepare for it. She asks for experiences rather than specific items.

Thanks to this thread my non-makeup wearing DD is getting some Sephora lip oil in her stocking. Maybe she'd like to try it?
