Will the GOP stop whining about CRT, transgender people, wokeism, and covid moms?

Of course it hurt them. Instead of attracting voters by representing their views on protecting reproductive rights and protecting democracy from coup attempts, they wasted their time carrying on about these issues of little consequence to voters. Are you not paying attention to where the votes materialized this cycle?

If you think the outcome was a backlash against anti-trans etc stuff then you are misreading the results. The two main issues Republicans got backlash against were abortion and 2020 election denialism. The Dems need to learn from this as well. Stop giving the social issues oxygen and learn to respond in a way that attracts the middle.

I don't think the voters gave a rat's ass about the trans stuff and all that time and energy and money invested by republicans on that issue cost them. they could hav used that time and energy and money to actually try to attract some votes.

This entire “war on schools” agenda by the rightwing - CRT, “grooming,” “gender ideology,” etc - was created to deflect from mass shootings at schools.

That’s it.

Think about who benefits from over-the-top Strawman scenarios that are not happening at schools? And also might make elements of the public feel less sympathetic toward students and educators? If you attack schools on all these issues, you’re no longer talking about Uvalde. And, in fact, maybe those darn teachers had it comin’

Again, this is from Montgomery County’s own website:

Exposing young grade school aged kids to scantily dressed people of any gender on the public dime is okay with you? I bet at least 80% of the country is not okay with this.

Democrats are right to hammer Trump and decry post Roe overreach and lunacy. But please don’t think advocating for Drag Queen Story Hours is a ticket to political success.

Find pictures of a drag queen story hour where the queen is scantily dressed. I’ll wait.

DP. This has been asked and unanswered many times. Maybe you will finally answer: What is the point of drag queen story hour and what benefit do children get from it? We'll wait.

Like most programming designed for children, it’s fun and kids like it. It brings them joy and exposes them to literacy in a fun and engaging way. It’s not that deep.

Dressing up like storybook characters would also be fun, bring joy, and expose children to literacy in a fun and engaging way. What is it *specifically* about men dressing up like over-the-top, garishly made up women that you find healthy and beneficial for children?

Please volunteer your time and energy to create a costume and dressing up like storybook characters to read to children. Thank you for your service.

I do volunteer my time reading to children in libraries. I didn't realize it would be more effective for me to dress as a stereotypical version of the opposite sex.

Uh, that is what they are doing. But sometime, it may be a man dressed as snow white or a worman dressed as one of the dwarfs.

It is fun, the kids love it and stop being a sourpuss.

Yes, I get that. What no one has been able to explain is WHY having a man dressed up as a woman is so important to you and what benefit you think children are getting from seeing this?

Why are clowns so beneficial for children? What benefit do you think children are getting from them specifically at birthday parties and circuses? Should we ban clowns at children’s events too? Why is a man wearing a red nose so important to you?

How about mascot/character costumes? Do children really get any specific benefit out of having them at Disneyworld? Why is a man dressed as Buzz Lightyear or Peter Pan so important to you?

Um, none of those things are "so important" to me. (Especially clowns - wtf?). Why are drag queens so very important to you - especially reading books to children?

They’re not important to me. That’s why I don’t vote based on their existence, or attend them to protest, or bring them up constantly as a gotcha against democrats.

Here's one thing that's seldom discussed here and elsewhere in the politcosphere : The vast majority of white people in this country are born, raised and die whilst having personal, social and professional circles made up entirely of people who look like them. In other words; they---more than any other group--- live in thick bubbles wherein views are shared and reinforced.

The above has meant that republicans find themselves overwhelmingly reliant of these people ( the white vote) more than any other politician, especially the non-white ones. Furthermore, at some point, republicans simply realized they didn't actually need to compete on policy and ideological coherency but that they could weaponize their demographic majority by peddling one form or another of 'whiteness'. See richard nixxon southern strategy. See reagan's ' welfare queens driving cadillacs'.

The problem is, since nixxon and reagan, a lot of things have changed in all facets of our lives. One of those is demographic changes but guess who hasn't changed? guess who's still doubling down on the same failed policies that, ironically or unironically paved the way for the tectonic demographic changes we're seeing today? Yes, these same white men. They are stuck in traps of their own making, the culture wars that they unnecessarily and gratuitously waged since the 70s are going to swallow them. They have no other choice but to double down, they've made themselves prisoners of their white electorate largely because they share the same views.

Odd that you spent all this energy talking about white people in a thread about trans issues. White people are way more liberal about trans issues than Blacks, Latinos, and Muslims.

The exit polls disagree with you. Then again, it's not like you have the intellectual wherewithal to get your head out of your behind.

No they will not have come to jezus. Their policies (tax cuts for wealthy, repealing ACA) are not popular.

I am actually surprised people didn’t vote based on covid policies more; I guess most people wanted all the lockdowns and masks and mandates where they happened/are about to happen (CA is silent on vaccine mandates for schools but I fully expect them to try to pass them again as soon as the dust of local elections settles). Most GOP voters didn’t actually experience much of that, and where they did their voice doesn’t really matter.

It’s almost like “lockdowns” (we had no lockdowns) and “mandates” (we had no mandates) weren’t that big a deal and no one cares that much a year later.

Election denialism is why Republicans didn’t sweep the Democrats. That tells me that even a small retreat from Trump’s lies will have Rs killing us next time around.

The fact that Democrats think it’s some badge of honor to have struggled so terribly just to *tie* Republicans in the Senate and lose the House to Republicans is just embarassing. We were up against the likes of Herschel Walker, whose own kid exposed him and we still couldn’t get anything resembling a mandate.

Do you have any idea how badly they’ll beat us if they don’t let Trump pick the candidates next time?

I swear we need a third party because Ds are so bloody low IQed and Rs are cruel.

I’d be very afraid if I were Democrats.

I hope all the boomers keep moving to Texas and Florida and concentrate themselves into those states.

Just remember, there are more boomers alive and voting Republican today than there will be tomorrow. That's literally true every single day.

I pulled this from an article about boomer housing.

"The 2020 Census showed that the baby boomers (born 1946 to 1964 and now ages 58 to 76), accounted for 22% of the U.S. population. By 2036, boomers will be 72 to 90 years old, and if the same age distribution held they would account for 10% of the population. By 2054 they would be 90 to 108, and account for less than 2% of the population."

I hope they do not. I have always voted for Democrats, but until last election I voted D without even/ever considering voting R. Since 2020, I make sure the D I’m voting for policies, actually align with my own on the most important issues to me.

I want nothing to do with extremist, either to the left of to the right.

To me:

YES to abortion rights at any gestational age - it is a decision to be made by the pregnant woman and her doctor;

YES to equality- but no race to the bottom. Figure out a way to bring everyone up or to offer the same opportunities. NO to lowering the standards so there is a false equality.

YES for gay rights. NO for hiding from parents what the school calls their children or anything else - that brings mistrust between schools and parents.

YES to being forthcoming about school policies and instruction materials. DEFINITELY YES to allowing parents to opt their kids out of instruction they deem harmful or against their beliefs.
