What’s happening in Spotsylvania? |
Even after this week - and the previous three elections - I think Rs still think culture war issues are their slam dunk. They are truly obsessed with children's and women's bodies and think everyone else is, too.
Let them keep losing - it makes the world safer and better. |
There are exceptions of course, but generally speaking the Dems outperformed expectations in close races when the R candidates were Trumpist election deniers and/or pushing extreme anti abortion/contraception agendas. Rs fared better when they avoided these these issues. (Ex: Desantis landslide). CRT and trans ideology remain deeply unpopular with Rs and independents.

DiSantis won because of voter suppression, full stop. Do you honestly think over a million Dems who voted in 2020 simply decided not to vote this year? |
You mean, will the GOP discontinue to create false scandals and issues to rile their base and keep people angry? No, that is their playbook. |
Imaginary grievances that appeal to fear and prejudice are the only consistent beliefs in the Republican Party. They assume white suburbanites are mostly bigots who can be scared into voting Republican every two years. |
What happened is those people are moving from other states to Florida, the imaginary grievance paradise. |
I am quite confident of the following about the GOP moving forward:
1. It will either continue demonizing the same groups (migrants, transgender individuals, etc.) or find some new group to pick on. 2. It will appeal to fear each and every time. 3. It will not offer any real, actionable solutions to improve the lives of average Americans. I hope I am wrong since we deserve better. |
It’ll be a combination of holding onto those issues (like some people hold onto the caravans topic), some extremists doubling down on those issues, and branching out to attack anything they can think of and following whichever paths look promising. Also cheating, suppressing the vote, election denial, and generally playing dirty. There certainly won’t be any introspection or trying to win over more voters. It’ll be about changing voters or who can vote to make their hateful policies appear to be the will of the people. https://twitter.com/therecount/status/1590680637945806850
They didn’t factor in young voters. They’re not traditionally the most reliable demographic, but then again in past generations young voters weren’t losing rights or worrying about being shot up in schools. Many of them grew up in an environment where LGBT rights were standard, abortion is considered healthcare, and active shooter drills are necessary and common. Now suddenly they’re finding LGBT rights are at risk, women aren’t full citizens with reproductive freedom in some states, and gun violence is normalized and handled poorly. We saw Uvalde and thanked our lucky stars it wasn’t our kids and sent compassion to the families however we could. Young voters saw it and wondered about that time there was a lockdown and they hid under their desks not knowing what was happening, if there was a shooter or if it was a drill, and would the police have let them, their classmates, their teachers die while they stand around in the halls. They’re voting for their lives and rights they didn’t think could be taken away, and I don’t think they’re going to be idle the way young voters were in the past. They prevented the red wave, and they’re solidly rejecting Trump politics and today’s version of conservative values. I think this is what happens when you empower young kids and give them tools for success. They think they can do anything. They’ll see the impact they’re having. They’re great at reaching and motivating their generation. Heck, if they can get people to try to eat a mouthful of cinnamon after seeing other people attempt it, they’ll figure out how to motivate each other to vote. |
Her campaign belatedly found they could connect with the Arab/Muslim communities in Michigan on the sex in schools issue. These communities are very riled up about this as it is a huge cultural issue when it comes to their kids. |
Republicans learned the hard way that people want abortion protections, so they're not going to touch that for a while.
However, other social mores are all still fodder, depending on location and opportunity. Please note that MANY OF US are tired of social media whinging on about race and gender! The current conversation highlights a lot of microaggressions, and that takes oxygen away from evidence of true racial and gender hate. If people could stop and think before posting, that would be great (and will never happen). I almost feel happy that Elon Musk is destroying Twitter - maybe the entire thing needs to go so people can stop barfing their emotions all over it. |
Republicans will not learn from this. Why? Because too many men ( a few ladies too) are making money off of the RWNJ “screamisphere”’
There is too much money to be made off of imagined grievance. Those guys aren’t going to reflect. They aren’t engaging in introspection. They will double down. Look at Alex Jones. He hasn’t mended his ways even after the courts hammered him. I expect them to start specifically targeting women more violently now. “Young unmarried women are the problem” “Women are crazy” “Women tracking your children are the problem “ Etc etc etc. |
What a crock of $hit. And, learn to spell his name since he will become president in the future... DeSantis. What you don't realize, or fail to admit is that many Democrats actually voted for him. Stop listening to idiotic, uneducated rubes like Ana Navarro. |
Just the language you chose to use in your post shows you know it is true. |
