Are Subarus rich people cars?

For the average new car, only 15% pay cash and buy it outright.

This is what makes Subaru a bougie car - it draws people who can afford to skip financing or leasing.

That is actually a very interesting factoid. I wonder what % pay cash at a Mercedes dealership.

Two-thirds of Mercedes are leased.

Lol, I’ll tell my kids we have a bougie car then. They’ll be thrilled.

+1. It's a middle class striver cope. The wealthiest people I know drive nice new cars, have multiple homes in prestigious locations, and send their kids to private school. Period.

Same. Only on DCUM do people brag about being thrifty. I know a few very wealthy people and they have private jets, designers clothes, various sports cars, houses all over the place, etc.

Consumer Reports 2022 magazine gives the Subaru Outback (89) and the Subaru Forester (86) very high ratings. CR does not recommend the Ascent, however.

Consumer Reports gives low marks to almost all Volvos. Volvo models are rated 50, 60, 62, 73, and 75--all of which are far below the ratings given to the Subaru Outback & Subaru Forester.

Consumer Reports 2022 also ranks vehicles by category:

The 2022 Subaru Outback is the highest ranked "SUVs: Midsized [2 row]. There are 12 models from 12 different car manufacturers in this category.

The 2022 Subaru Forester is the highest ranked Small SUV in a field of 32 models from 14 different car manufacturers. The Subaru Crosstrek ranks 3rd highest in this category.

The 2022 Subaru Ascent is ranked 9th best among 12 vehicles in the category for 3 row Midsized SUVs.

Subarus are popular for their high safety ratings, all wheel drive, and generous ground clearance.

Yawn. We bought our bmws in cash too. Stop trying to make Subarus aspirational. They are no more or less so than any random Toyota at this point.

As a Subaru (former Volvo, former Toyota) driver, I think the Toyota connection works -- Subarus appeal to people who don't mind being seen as practical. In fact, they prefer it. Their aspiration is to be rational.

Maybe it's a form of reverse snobbery.

yes, most people who drive subarus do so for its practicality. It's not a flashy car. It's reliable and practical; good performance, and the AWD makes it appealing for areas that get a lot of rain and/or snow.

It's not for the "rich", but for the MC/UMC who want quality for their money. They tend to have high credit scores, and UMC incomes. Subarus have the highest repeat customers.

I hope you have no car payments so since your vehicles cost in the $500 range....

Subaru drivers are the old 80s/90s volvo drivers....they hold up traffic and hog the left lane. BTW...don't think much of Subes...have a Forester and it has eaten oil from day 1, i finally just gave up. NOT even close to the build quality and reliability of a Toyota (or even an Mazda)

Rich people on DCUM drive Toyotas and Hondas. Are they rich people cars? No.
The vast majority of Subaru, Toyota and Honda buyers are middle to low income people. A few rich folks that want to be low key buy them.

My Subaru is also a crazy gas guzzler.

? site your source? If a major % of Subaru buyers are buying cash, then how are they "low middle income"? You think MC have $25K sitting in the bank to buy a new car? GTFO

That is actually a very interesting factoid. I wonder what % pay cash at a Mercedes dealership.

I can make up percentages too - 50% of people who believe random third party generated factoids like pears!

Dude, sales guy is messing with you and this "fact" is anything but.

They're cars for people who like to deny themselves pleasures like comfortable seats, high end finishes, and a butter smooth ride. Two of the families with them that I know have the most base models available. Zero features like Bluetooth, decent speakers, and what not. Really ugly cloth seats that collect grime. Definitely not the car for a lipstick lesbian.

It’s astonishing how gullible people are. PP is spreading obvious disinformation. And it’s such obvious sleazy car dealership disinfo. Half…50/50! And you parrot it like a trained seal.
