Are Subarus rich people cars?

Anonymous
I loved my Outback and it held value more than any other car I ever drove. I plan to get one for my teen when it comes time for a 3rd car.

Definitely reevaluate that, because they are on the list of worst cars to own.

News to me, so I tried to look it up...and here's my finding: https://www.consumerreports.org/car-reliability-owner-satisfaction/10-least-reliable-cars-a2967595976/

Note the first car on the least reliable list...is a Subaru.

DP. I live in Subaru heavy area and I'm not sure I've ever seen an Ascent in the wild.

My dad is rich and has a Subaru, because he’s cheap.

My extremely practical parents own two Subaru Outbacks. One is over 25 years old and still runs fine. The other is a couple of years old. They've always purchased their vehicles in cash.

I'm not sure about their net worth but it's safe to assume somewhere in the range of 10+ million. They still live in the house they purchased 45 years ago. It's an amazing property but the house is absolutely a tear down.

If you saw my parents you would never imagine how much wealth they're sitting on. They're miserly. They didn't even offer to help pay for college and my mom routinely refused to pay for field trips or yearbooks or whatever fundraiser stuff our public school did. I wore all handed down clothes and shoes. Had to buy my own car and even my own insurance policy at 16.

Because a modern volvo is a pseudo luxury car that isn't quite a BMW or Mercedes. Subaru today is what volvo was in the 80s and 90s

not really. They are completely different classes of vehicle, volvo is the same as BMW, Mercedes, porsche, audi etc see upper mid size premium

Suburu is Upper Midsize SUV

There are at least 3 in the parking lot for pick-up at my Falls Church preschool. Central/West Arlington is very Subaru heavy. My kids like to count how many other blue outbacks like ours they can spot in a parking lot.

I should add if you are not a car person and not a Subaru owner, at a quick glance the Asscent and Outback look very similar. The Asscent is longer.

LOL, I'm not a big Subaru fan, but PP, according to the article, "They’re presented in rank order, counting down to the least reliable model."

Volvo is not in the same league as BMW or Mercedes or Porsche or Audi. They are a tick below and their prices reflect that. Subaru outbacks are what volvo wagons used to be- safe practical cars that appealed to people across income ranges

Interestingly, neither are our kids, who are in their early 20s and who have significant trustfunds courtesy of their grandparents. I'll also note that you see a lot of Subarus in NH towns with a significant population of well-heeled retirees.

Wow PP, that really is interesting about your kids, and their trust funds.

Ew, jeeps are awful. Unsafe and juvenile.

If I had to choose between Japanese Subaru vs. Chinese Volvo, I would pick Japanese every time.

You're utterly mad if you think a Volvo is the in the same class as a Porsche or Mercedes. Perhaps an Audi.
