+1. It's a middle class striver cope. The wealthiest people I know drive nice new cars, have multiple homes in prestigious locations, and send their kids to private school. Period.

Because a modern volvo is a pseudo luxury car that isn't quite a BMW or Mercedes. Subaru today is what volvo was in the 80s and 90s

not really. They are completely different classes of vehicle, volvo is the same as BMW, Mercedes, porsche, audi etc see upper mid size premium

Suburu is Upper Midsize SUV

Volvo is not in the same league as BMW or Mercedes or Porsche or Audi. They are a tick below and their prices reflect that. Subaru outbacks are what volvo wagons used to be- safe practical cars that appealed to people across income ranges

This is true. But I think Subaru has far more non-affluent MC people buying them than Volvos of yesteryear.

Both of the Grandmas in our family have them because the seat height to get in is perfect for the elderly. Not too high, not too low.

I have subarus for my college aged kids because they are safe and the AWD is necessary for New England/Upstate NY. I think they are probably the best all-around car on the market for safety, reliability and affordability. I am certainly not rich nor am I upper middle class.

Like Hondas and Toyotas, they are affordable and extremely dependable. (Well, no car is affordable anymore.) They’re not a trash brand nor are they luxury: they’re for people who care more about their bank account than impressing strangers with a stupid car.

they just are practical cars. we're not car people, why waste money on cars? i mean i guess there are those that like truly fancy or unique cars, but looking out on the streets, they aren't that many people like that.

honestly, the one expensive german car we had gave us more problems in a couple years than we've ever had with our subarus. maybe a lexus could work, but the subaru works just fine for us.

most wealthy people I know don't drive their own cars unless they are into cars. seriously, just get a driver.

I live in an area with a mountain range, and so many people love them around here. There are roads they wouldn’t do w/o a Subaru, a 4wd truck or a jeep.

The highest concentration of Subarus I’ve ever encountered is in West Virginia. Who knew there were so many middle class strivers in WV

We were visiting family in the Berkshires several years ago, and had to take our trash to the dump before leaving town. I was momentarily confused, because every other car there was also an Outback. For a second I thought I was at a dealership.

I don’t really care about cars and I find my Subaru to be expensive and boring, but it’s great for tall people. It’s a Forester and it’s really tall I guess, or it just feels tall inside somehow. Way, way roomier for the very tall than the CRV or the RAV4.

Apparently my dad who I mentioned upthread is imaginary.

I hate to tell you this but if you are buying multiple Subarus for your kids because they "have" to have their own for college, you are rich!
