+1000

So educate yourself rather than hide with your conservative white nationalistic view of the world, cringing at everyone else who has grown.

Virginia has Youngkin, who by almost every measure is even worse than Jim Justice. Virginians have no room to talk.

You mean like this shack?

I think they meant this one.

What are you calling a shack? This would go for 990k in North Arlington.

Any recommendations for where in west va to visit and explore for a few day? I am intrigued and want to check out the state. No plans on moving there but a second house would be lovely. Although it would be another 10 years or so before we could afford it

PP living in WV. I recommend the eastern panhandle (towns already mentioned here like Shephardstown, Harper’s Ferry etc) or around Thomas & Davis/Canaan Valley.

Hardy County (Lost River area) is also nice for second homes and about an hour closer to DC vs. Canaan. Still easy to pop up to the higher elevation in Canaan Valley for a day of skiing or cooler weather in the summer but slightly less of a schlep for regular weekends.

I know of no one moving to WV. I can't imagine making that as a choice.

I live in a diverse neighborhood in downtown DC. Spend most of my week-ends hiking & kayaking in WV.

Most of WV is indeed a bit of a dump. But nothing compared to downtown DC.

For starters, your Trump-voting WV neighbors don't leave big piles of human faeces outside your garage. Or throw up in your front yard. Both of which have happened to me in the past 24 hours.

I'll be glad to leave the progressive pleasures of DC life to my woke neighbors.

And yes, it's amusing how DC progressives are always terribly concerned about the poor, as long as they are not white males.

We just looked at property in WV this weekend. Going to pass. We're not white and felt uncomfortable. When we got there the realtors logo had an Indian boy with a bow and arrow. DH is native and it wasn't a good start.

We looked on the eastern panhandle area. Paw paw, Capacon, Wardensville. The prices are still 5-10k an acre, which is decent. And like $250 for property tax. But the nice houses are in gated communities. It had a real haves and have-nots vibe, which felt so uncomfortable as we drove by trailer parks situated next to 775k homes in gated developments

You didn't look hard enough. I'm typing this in a house in WV that's worth a lot more than that, in a neighborhood of other high end homes -- with neither gates nor trailer parks anywhere in sight.

Alright well good for you? I can't afford more than 800k for my second home and frankly don't want to. And I don't want to "look hard enough" to see past racist microagressions k?

Well, with your attitude it was likely a non-starter from the get go. You shouldn't have even bothered looking.

Anonymous wrote:You guys act like WV is one entirely homogeneous place. As if every town or country in VA is the exact same or even every part of DC were the same when it comes to politics, attitude, safety, economic health, etc.

It is NOT. Any thread about moving to "West Virginia" is useless unless it is about a specific town or local area that you can actually determine if it is the right fit for you. Otherwise it is just garbage useless posts like entire thread, aside from 2 or 3 posts.

Exactly. Talking about your vacation home in shannondale, and how the people there are so down to earth and kind and hard working as if to debunk podunk backwoods scary WV stereotypes is a little weird. From Shannondale you can practically spit on the county with the highest median income in the whole damn country (Loudoun), and there’s plenty of people who live and commute to DMV jobs from that area. It’s is a little different than saying you are going to pick up your life and move to Welch or something.
