I'm a PP living in West Virginia and am amazed at how few people know that the "West" in West Virginia came from them seceding from the South. Yet they call West Virginians ignorant... |
| No reason to move there if you aren’t poor and can afford it here. People get pushed further and further west as even the exurbs become less affordable. |
| Maybe we can turn West VA blue; it's beautiful and would be a great place to live if people would put more work into it. |
| Not buying it. No one's moving to WVA. |
You’re funny. Most people in WV have more money than you think they do. They just don’t show it by wearing flashy clothes, having big new poorly built houses, and eating at fancy restaurants. In WV the guy you mistake for a bum could be a millionaire. Looks can be deceiving. |
The church I attend in WV is multi generational and multi cultural. There’s people of all colors, ages, races, mixed race couples, black and white preachers, etc.- nobody cares about race like you think they do. People that don’t know WV have just told you that you wouldn’t be welcome and you listened to them. That’s unfortunate. |
Actually they would tolerate Trump flags just like the Trumpers tolerate pride and BLM flags. Shepherdstown during election season had trump signs all over. Majority of Trump people don’t advertise outside of election time like BLM or others do. It’s just a given that at least half your neighbors will be Republican. Politics don’t dominate the region though, that’s a big difference between WV and DC. Nobody is going to touch anyone’s flag in a Constitutional Carry state, if you do you’re just stupid. |
I love this response. |
There’s a huge native population in WV, learn some history instead of being offended by a picture of an Indian. |
Exactly. |
Exactly! Without Manchin, Jackson wouldn’t have been confirmed to the SC. |

We bought a vacation place and we love it for the beauty and for our actual house.
We are careful about where we go, and what we say, even in our community. The political divide is real. We recently invited friends of ours, who are Black, for a weekend, and they admitted to us that they were really apprehensive (we are white). I made sure we were careful about where we ventured to, because the reality is that WV only has pockets of places where non-white presenting people would feel comfortable. Shepherdstown is welcoming to diversity, but other towns, not so much. |
| One downside to moving to a rural state like WV is that your children will probably move far away in search of better job opportunities when they finish college. |
What about Cannan valley? We plan to visit that area in Oct, and we are not white. |
Canaan Valley/Davis/and Thomas are all friendly and welcoming. |
