What did you do for the at large seat? They didn’t make any endorsements for that race.

If these guys are endorsing the slate, that's all I need to know. They're certifiable nutjobs.

No, the Apple Ballot didn't endorse any at-large candidates.

I wasn't referring to the Apple Ballot but the "moderatelymoco" group that endorses the right-wing candidates.

I thought the Apple Ballot choices were solid.

Apple Ballot all the way.

Oh that's too bad. We love the kids museum! I voted for him too.

I mean, there's a difference between liking the Kid Museum and approving MCPS using Covid relief funds to gift a large no-bid contract to a board member's family member.

You know that MCPS has been contracting with the Kid Museum since something like 2017, right? Long before Joftus was on the board.

And you know, that they got a ton more money once he was on the board right??

If you were supposedly talking about the ESSER III grant, that was authorized prior to Joftus being appointed to the board.

Yep--see this from Sept re the funding decision:
https://go.boarddocs.com/mabe/mcpsmd/Board.nsf/files/C6GJTZ4E2726/$file/Cont%20Apprv%20Bid%204403.1%20STEM%20Programs.pdf

He was appointed to fill the seat three months later, in December, after previous BoE member Pat O'Neill passed. This line of attack is slander, and stupid slander at that because it's so cleary bogus.

I don't know Joftus personally but he's supported by many people I respect. Here's an endorsement from Jamie Raskin:

"Scott is doing a great job for us on the Board of Education. We are benefiting from his work with school districts across the country and his significant insight as a professor of educational leadership. We're lucky to have him where he is using his expertise on behalf of our students and our schools."

Joftus thinks he has this wrapped up. I hate that type of arrogance. His campaigning is lazy. He can't keep his website up to date. He has almost no social media presence.

For god sake, he is of different generation that are considered technically challenged. Time to send him to back to retirement

I do too, but a PP had said they were voting straight apple ballot, and another PP asked what they did about the at-large seat. I don't think that other group was part of this conversation.

Strange, seems like a great guy to me.

Yeah, me too. I emailed him about something and got a very quick and helpful reply. The fact that he is devoting time to BoE work and not his website seems like a good thing to me, what am I missing?

You're not missing anything. The reopening crowd (who apparently havent received the message schools have been open for over a year now) just want to push their insane candidates, so they do anything they can to defame others.

It's funny too, because "the slate" didn't even find anyone to run in District 3.

I intend to vote for those in favor of "limiting" illegal immigrants in our schools.

Do you have any hard evidence of this? Because this sounds like a baseless attack.

Although I find your statement hateful and repugnant, I hope you realize the Board of Education can't do much about that.

Current Supreme Court might do that, but MCPS can't.

Most of the county's problems can be laid at the feet of the uber-karens aka the cray cray reopening crowd.

You mean the crowd that was right the whole time? The crowd that ultimately proven correct? The crowd that would be justified in flying a hue "I TOLD YOU SO" banner in front of the MCPS HQ?

Or the crowd that hasn't done that, and instead is trying to hold decision-makers accountable and effect change from within? The crowd that instead of griping anonymously on twitter or DCUM is actually running for office? The crowd that isn't hiding behind an anonymous message board and is actually putting their name and faces behind their beliefs?

That crowd?

No the ones that wanted to put families at risk of a deadly pandemic because it wasn't convenient for them.

Man, you guys just refuse to admit that MAYBE you were wrong, and that MAYBE school closure was a huge mistake and that MAYBE the countries and districts that returned to full-time in 2020 were actually right.
