There is a direct correlation between these standardized test averages and school SES. More often than not it's not the hgih-flyers but the absence of low-scorers bringing down the average but regardless neither indicates school quality. |
+1000. The top 5 students at Mt. Vernon are equal to the top 5 students at Langley as far as scores and academic potential. However, the bottom 5 at Mt. Vernon are magnitudes and worlds away from the bottom 5 at Langley. |
And this is why I don't anticipate seeing some enormous dropoff as a result of the geographic distribution piece in the new admissions process. There are phenomenal students everywhere in Northern Virginia. |
You're on to something! I've always thought that high-fliers would pretty much do the same at any school. I mean sure Langley may have 4-5 sections of AP English and Mount Vernon may only have 2-3 but they still cover the same material with the same FCPS teachers. |
