As long as they're not getting what they want, the Coalition folks will do absolutely everything within their power to destroy the school.

As if that wasn’t the motivation of the likes of Ricardy Anderson, Karen Keys Gamarra, and Karen Corbett Sanders? They weren’t getting enough seats to suit their liking so they blew up TJ so they’d have more bacon to bring home to their constituents. And Scott Brabrand was a colossal failure as Superintendent who played along because he was foolish enough to think it would improve his standing with School Board members, who then didn’t waste a second before they threw him under a bus.

No. Destroying the school wasn't their motivation. Ensuring that every strong student in Fairfax County and the rest of the catchment areas feels as though they have access to TJ was. Ensuring that exceptional Black and Hispanic students who were admitted didn't leave because they didn't see anyone else who looked like them at Freshmen Preview was.

Nonsense. And you agitators will just keep redefining who meets of the definition of a “strong student” until you get the geographic and race-based quotas that you’re seeking to advance your political agenda.

The role of TJ was to nurture the strongest STEM talent in the region, regardless of race and ethnicity, not to ensure that students of any particular race see a specific number of peers who “look like me.” You traffic in cliches with no understanding of their long-term implications. This is keeping the Jews out Harvard 2.0.

yeah, no. The difference is that keeping the Jews out of Harvard was about keeping a population OUT of a given school. TJ reform is about inviting populations IN to create a MORE inclusive environment. And this is why people like Asra Nomani make such jokes of themselves when they start talking about the new TJ admissions process as some sort of "Massive Resistance 2.0". It's idiotic and offensive, and yet people keep eating it up because grievance politics are effective in this day and age.

She keeps parlaying this trash into more and more appearances on Fox News and other right-wing affiliates that are also talking about an attempt to overthrow the government as legitimate political discourse and sees trans individuals as groomers. You're aligning yourself with the darkest forces at play in American politics and history is not going to look fondly on those who submit.

Sounds like a veiled threat from the crowd who yell “Let The Die!” about those who won’t jump on their equity train. Your path to “inclusion” is going to meet some stuff headwinds because your politics are not only divisive, but also incoherent. Why have a TJ at all if it’s just a stage set for you clowns to put on your DEI play?

That quote was about letting abhorrent ideas die, not abhorrent people. Anyone with half a brain knows that.

Why have a TJ at all? So that outstanding students from ALL communities can come together to create an exceptional learning environment.

"Clowns putting on a DEI play" sounds pretty divisive and incoherent to me. Again, one group is trying to be INclusive, while the other is trying to be EXclusive. This isn't hard.

Having your chief proponent as a regular on fox news doesn't seem like a way to win support in Fairfax county, but C4TJ should plug right along. They really are the best advertisement of for the pro reform crowd

As long as it keeps the money and Twitter followers flowing into the coffers of Asra Nomani and Parents Defending Education (gag), she will continue to squawk, shriek, and squeal to her heart's content.

She knows that a slightly lessened chance of getting into TJ for an incredibly small sub-segment of the Asian population is enough to get everyone up in arms - even if the vast majority of Northern Virginia's Asian population benefits from the changes.

How'd that line work out for you in the state elections last year? More to come (sacking Eileen Filler-Corn as the Democratic party leader in Richmond is just another canary in the coal mine).

You need a mirror, because the anti-Asian rhetoric infused the entire process surrounding the TJ admissions change. This was apparent in Brabrand's comments and acknowledged by multiple sitting FCPS School Board members, who nevertheless went right along with the changes to the admissions process because the Democrats in Fairfax live in fear of offending the Fairfax NAACP and have no such qualms when it comes to disrespecting the Asian community.

No. Different lawyers.

What's a joke about USNews is how it apparently compares schools from different states to each other.

I'll cite, for example, Brentwood High School in TN, since I grew up there and know the school. Brentwood HS is #301 in the overall rankings, higher than Woodson HS. In no way is Brentwood High School even close to any Fairfax County school in quality. It doesn't even offer math higher than Calculus. Too much emphasis is placed in the rankings on statewide standardized tests, but just because a school like Brentwood is higher-achieving than the other schools in TN (which is largely an academic cesspool) doesn't say anything about how it compares to schools in Virginia or Massachusetts or New Jersey.

It’s always going to be difficult to compare schools in different states. The rankings within states and within school districts in a state are generally more credible.

Be specific about the anti-Asian rhetoric that you're referring to. And make sure that you're talking only about rhetoric that is anti-Asian broadly, and not anti-The Specific Asians Who Are Interested In TJ.

Glad you've figured out these rankings are meaningless. They're mostly a way to bolster real estate prices in affluent areas and tell very little about specific schools.
