U.S. News Unveils 2022 Best High Schools Rankings

I'll cite, for example, Brentwood High School in TN, since I grew up there and know the school. Brentwood HS is #301 in the overall rankings, higher than Woodson HS. In no way is Brentwood High School even close to any Fairfax County school in quality. It doesn't even offer math higher than Calculus. Too much emphasis is placed in the rankings on statewide standardized tests, but just because a school like Brentwood is higher-achieving than the other schools in TN (which is largely an academic cesspool) doesn't say anything about how it compares to schools in Virginia or Massachusetts or New Jersey.

Glad you've figured out these rankings are meaningless. They're mostly a way to bolster real estate prices in affluent areas and tell very little about specific schools.

And yet it's FCPS not Long & Foster or another realtor that put out a press release this week about the most recent US News rankings. Go figure.

Anonymous wrote:It always baffling me to read comments from people who really wish and can't hardly wait that something so bad happens to other, especially to innocent students. I have 2 kids still in lower grade, they are smart, but I don't think they will accepted to TJ, but the kid who made it there is always amaze me, I am proud of them and to the school as that is the school in the area where I live, regardless of the old system or new system admission.

As long as they're not getting what they want, the Coalition folks will do absolutely everything within their power to destroy the school.

As if that wasn’t the motivation of the likes of Ricardy Anderson, Karen Keys Gamarra, and Karen Corbett Sanders? They weren’t getting enough seats to suit their liking so they blew up TJ so they’d have more bacon to bring home to their constituents. And Scott Brabrand was a colossal failure as Superintendent who played along because he was foolish enough to think it would improve his standing with School Board members, who then didn’t waste a second before they threw him under a bus.

No. Destroying the school wasn't their motivation. Ensuring that every strong student in Fairfax County and the rest of the catchment areas feels as though they have access to TJ was. Ensuring that exceptional Black and Hispanic students who were admitted didn't leave because they didn't see anyone else who looked like them at Freshmen Preview was.

Nonsense. And you agitators will just keep redefining who meets of the definition of a “strong student” until you get the geographic and race-based quotas that you’re seeking to advance your political agenda.

The role of TJ was to nurture the strongest STEM talent in the region, regardless of race and ethnicity, not to ensure that students of any particular race see a specific number of peers who “look like me.” You traffic in cliches with no understanding of their long-term implications. This is keeping the Jews out Harvard 2.0.

yeah, no. The difference is that keeping the Jews out of Harvard was about keeping a population OUT of a given school. TJ reform is about inviting populations IN to create a MORE inclusive environment. And this is why people like Asra Nomani make such jokes of themselves when they start talking about the new TJ admissions process as some sort of "Massive Resistance 2.0". It's idiotic and offensive, and yet people keep eating it up because grievance politics are effective in this day and age.

She keeps parlaying this trash into more and more appearances on Fox News and other right-wing affiliates that are also talking about an attempt to overthrow the government as legitimate political discourse and sees trans individuals as groomers. You're aligning yourself with the darkest forces at play in American politics and history is not going to look fondly on those who submit.

That sounds about right. It really is surprising some people are unable to grasp the obvious.

You need a mirror, because the anti-Asian rhetoric infused the entire process surrounding the TJ admissions change. This was apparent in Brabrand's comments and acknowledged by multiple sitting FCPS School Board members, who nevertheless went right along with the changes to the admissions process because the Democrats in Fairfax live in fear of offending the Fairfax NAACP and have no such qualms when it comes to disrespecting the Asian community.

Be specific about the anti-Asian rhetoric that you're referring to. And make sure that you're talking only about rhetoric that is anti-Asian broadly, and not anti-The Specific Asians Who Are Interested In TJ.

I think the Judge did a pretty good job pointing out the specifics and putting them in context. Please read the opinion. I am not Asian, but I was really surprised and will admit it appears that the Asian dominance of TJ admissions was seen as the problem and they were determined to fix it by making it harder for Asians from feeder schools to get in.

Notice how there isn't a discussion of #2. Academic Magnet High School (SC) that's 78% white, about its lack of diversity. Funny how a non-white majority that is excelling is taken down by woke whites in the name of 'equity.'

Huge congrats, TJ. Keep doing your thing while working to make the school more inclusive! Proud of this school!

Long & Foster is interested in boosting home prices in exclusive areas. TJ doesn't really help with that but these rankings do.

So true, but don't tell that to someone who's home value is being artificially inflated.

So you define best as those who spent the $$ to buy access to the test from the prep center?
