| Also, forgot to mention that several schools offered Hillel and had Kosher options. Muhlenberg had kosher, halal, vegan and gluten free widely available. They seem very student centric and are showing a commitment to diversity. |
| JMU knocked it out of the park. So we’ll organized and welcoming. Student ambassadors were helpful and engaging, and professors were informative. We weren’t thinking JMU would be a top choice, but my daughter was impressed and felt at “home” on campus. |
+1 same here. |

W&M did really well for us. They offered 3 different focused events. You could attend one or all, up to you.
1. Focused on diversity & inclusivity - how it is part of their community, welcoming you to the fold. They had student panels, Heath Clinic, academic advisor, transition advisor, etc. panel. Current Students were assigned as guides to each kid and pulled away for 3 hrs. for intimate 1 on 1 tours & talks, including dining hall lunch. This was the part that really provided some great inside and info directly from a student that DD said you did not get during the regular events or campus tours. Kids got to sit on real lectures (they had choices). 2. The big regular admitted student event. It began with speeches of which a current senior received a standing ovation. Well organized, with many different information sessions with panels including students (Research, study abroad, pre-professional, athletics, career svc, advising, performing arts, etc. They had informal department meets (DD really liked this one as she is contemplating a double major), multiple-mock lectures (you got to sit in on bigger lecture halls and smaller ones in different buildings), clubs exhibits & performances outside where they had lunch for pick up (so you could sit, eat and watch the clubs), 3. Smaller more intimate student focused event. Again, kids get pulled away and paired with current students for a few hours for personal tours/info, mock lectures, lunch. Parents get student panels/1st yr experience and later special interest panels. |
Honestly confused about why that joke bothered people so much, and the accusations of sock puppeting. It’s possible for a post to be both helpful and funny, no one denied the former. I am the second lunch PP, and also OP btw, and think it’s great that PP’s kid has so many options. I started this thread bc DC has their last admitted student days coming up at a very good school but is leaning towards somewhere else. I was trying to get a sense of how often a good admitted student event moves the needle and why. This feedback has all been really helpful. As for lunch/only person with sense of humor poster, a drink might be better

Because it was at someone else's expense and didn't offer anything helpful. Snark is not humor. If you appreciate people posting responses to your thread, maybe don't mock them. |
This is the lunch commenter. Yes, it was snark. It wasn’t personal, gross or nasty. Just good old fashioned DCUM. snark. It’s a part of the fabric of this site. Someone who is smart and strong enough to raise a kid with all those acceptances should have enough of a thick skin to take it in stride. Back to my supporter quoted above: yes, a drink AND lunch would be great. And I’d happily spring for a lunch & drink for college lunch visit mom as well. Again, she’s done well with her kid. |
| Best Admitted Student Day? Who the F cares about this? Did you feel the need to tell us where your kid got admitted Is that what this is? By all means, where did your snowflake get accepted? Tell us. Dying to know. |
Plenty of people care and find the info helpful. Did someone hold a gun to head and force you to read this thread? |
NP - I love that you got all excited about lunches and now you said “going all Heather Chandler on me”. You’re a winner in my book. I want to buy you lunch. I dig your sense of humor. |
| The Helicopter Generation for sure. Why on earth would parents go to a half a dozen "admitted STUDENT" days with their kid? |
Umm because they typically offer sessions for parents too? And if the sessions aren't specifically for parents, the sessions often provide valuable information that parents might want to know too, about their kids planned school? |
Meh. Parents don't need to know anything but who to write the check out to. It's weird. Sorry. |
| Morehouse looks to be awesome tomorrow! |
Yes, why would a parent want to know anything about the school where their child will be attending the next four years? There are so many absolute morons in these threads. I hope you're actually a child because if you're an adult, you're a pretty sorry person. |
