What a bizarre question. |
Because some students have trusting relationships with their parents and want their help and suppprt in making this big life decision. Guess what? Believe it or not, some of us even went wedding dress shopping with our mothers! |
DS is still choosing which school to attend, so we need the information to help him decide. Also, the expect the parents, which is why they have parent sessions on things like paying tuition. |
Agree it was well organized , including hotel and shuttle bus from airport and to the university. However the reception with open bar and passed out appetizers felt a little bit much to me. I guess they know to schmooze with the people writing the checks for the deposit. |
Not thrilled with families that send unvaxxed or unboosted college students into my classroom. |
Wow. This is an aggressive response. I really don’t care at all how many accepted student days your DC attended. However, I would think you could eliminate a few before you travelled all over the country. That is all. My DC is a sophomore in college majoring in acting-, so also applied to a lot of schools you have listed. DC did not get into anywhere NEAR this level of schools (congrats to your DD) and we eliminated Muhlenberg very quickly without a re-visit when making her final decisions. |
+1 The PP is either a troll, an obnoxious kid, or just a pathetic parent. |
Because it is just nice to spend time with my kid. I don't care all that much about the actual admitted student days as my kid is the one who will ultimately be making the decision regarding what college they will attend (we are fortunate to be full pay so all schools where she was accepted are options). I do, however, enjoy spending time with my daughter and realize that in 3+ months she will begin a new phase of her life and our time together will be forever changed. Not worse, not better but certainly never the same as the past 18 years. So, that is why I go along with her all the admitted student days she desires to attend. Plus, restaurants and eating out = no cooking! A win for me right there. |
I didn't realize any college allowed parents to attend (my kids are not yet applying - I am here because I am procrastinating). I went to Brown's admitted student day ages ago and didn't like it. But I did love Brown. Congrats to your kid - it is a great school!!! |
| Did your younger (or older kids)/ siblings of college-bound kid tag along on admit/preview days? |
Yes! |
But for the most part, the parents are paying. For $376K ($94k per year), they could wine and dine the parents a bit. |
That 94k goes for the $25 wine bottles and catered lunch |
Actually, only about half of the parents are paying. |
Uh, I was under the impression that it’s pretty much assumed a parent goes to the accepted student days. I went to one yesterday and every student had parents with them. On our tour of 15 families for the CS department, every student had one or both parents with them. |
