W&M did really well for us. They offered 3 different focused events. You could attend one or all, up to you. 1. Focused on diversity & inclusivity - how it is part of their community, welcoming you to the fold. They had student panels, Heath Clinic, academic advisor, transition advisor, etc. panel. Current Students were assigned as guides to each kid and pulled away for 3 hrs. for intimate 1 on 1 tours & talks, including dining hall lunch. This was the part that really provided some great inside and info directly from a student that DD said you did not get during the regular events or campus tours. Kids got to sit on real lectures (they had choices). 2. The big regular admitted student event. It began with speeches of which a current senior received a standing ovation. Well organized, with many different information sessions with panels including students (Research, study abroad, pre-professional, athletics, career svc, advising, performing arts, etc. They had informal department meets (DD really liked this one as she is contemplating a double major), multiple-mock lectures (you got to sit in on bigger lecture halls and smaller ones in different buildings), clubs exhibits & performances outside where they had lunch for pick up (so you could sit, eat and watch the clubs), 3. Smaller more intimate student focused event. Again, kids get pulled away and paired with current students for a few hours for personal tours/info, mock lectures, lunch. Parents get student panels/1st yr experience and later special interest panels.
