+1 The convoy will keep up with the pattern of circling the convoy while increasing the number of loops every day this week until their demands are met, The Washington Post reports. What demands? https://wtop.com/dc-transit/2022/03/trucker-convoy-plans-to-encircle-dc-beltway-sunday/ The convoy has stated a primary opposition to mask mandates and other COVID-19 regulations. Most of those mandates and other COVID-19 restrictions have been lifted in recent weeks. Meanwhile, they add to the demand for fuel. |
| Morons. I guess they don’t have jobs they need to be at? |
I don't support the convoy, but everyone here claiming there are no mask mandates, technically mostly correct, but we had 2 years of onerous mandates that just didn't make sense. Most on here would love for the mandates to come back. |
What? Now you’re gaslighting. No one is asking for mask mandates to come back. You’re pulling sh*t from your a%%. What exactly are these clowns protesting again? |
| These truckers sound stupid as shit. |
I think if someone lived in the alternative history world believing that covid was fake hype and that it was all about forced lockdowns and masking and vaccines as a means of "gubmint control" they would think they are now being "gaslit" by mandates going away in response to lower covid numbers. The easier answer is that the people that fed them they anti-mask, anti-vax hysteria were the ones lying all this time. Just like how they tried saying "see, we were right all along" when Democrat governors finally started dropping mandates in response to greatly decreased numbers of cases, deaths and hospitalizations, when Republicans wanted to drop mandates when we were nowhere near the end of the pandemic, and while numbers were still going UP. Context matters. It's always been about the NUMBERS, far more than the politics. It was the right wing who chose to politicize and ignore the numbers. |
False! The mandates have always been situational, as circumstances warrant, and based on the numbers and advice of scientists and public health experts. ALWAYS. NOBODY was ever in favor of permanent mandates regardless of whether there's a pandemic or not. |
Death toll would have been much, much higher without masks, without limiting indoor venues, without vaccines. The mandates saved millions of lives. If you think that isn't true, or doesn't make sense, then you are either clueless or a sociopath who does not value human life. |
Well, in DC, the schools aren't following CDC guidance that schoolkids can unmask indoors. Hell, some schools aren't even allowing kids to mask OUTDOORS. |
| Mostly I think it's funny/annoying that they are going to have to keep moving at 45 mph, so burning a ton of fuel, at a time when gas prices in the area are over $4/gallon for gas (higher for diesel). |
Sounds like you need to go hang out on the Beltway and cheer on your trucking brothers who are fighting for your rights. |
I have considered it. But they seem mostly dumb about every other demand, so no. Also I have a job. Anyway, just pointing out that's it not correct that restrictions were only imposed when warranted and are all removed now. Not true. |
| Is this going to affect my commute in to DC from VA on Monday morning? |
This is all I care about and from what I’ve read, the trucks never left Hagerstown yesterday. I don’t think we’ll see them in DC. |
It might. Let’s try to keep this thread about traffic. Take the politics to the thread in that forum. |
