I mean they keep saying following the science and follow the CDC so will today at 3 PM they believe those studies don't matter? Or that the CDC is wrong and they did their research so they know better?

I don't think you are following what people are saying. There were many sane people that were fighting the removal of the mask mandate while Omicron was still surging. Now that the Omicron peak has passed and numbers (cases, hospitalizations, and deaths) are plummeting, this is exactly the time to begin the off-ramp. Not when Youngkin signed his illegal EO.

By the way, the FCPS metrics (moderate for 7 days) will probably be met by mid-March. So, for all of the celebrating about the recent law change, the state and FCPS will be almost exactly aligned on the end of mask mandates.

I don't think you want to admit that you were mad about a republican decision

I followed quite well and the hysteria was based on "I wanna prove how woke I am!"

Generally speaking, most people were smart enough to figure out that we really did have low transmission weeks ago. I guess people like you just need the government to tell you that.

Prince George's County (MD) superintendent just sent out a letter today saying that despite the state Board of Education giving local districts the option to make masking optional, "I anticipate easing our mask mandate by the end of the school year." !!!

Can you imagine if we were getting that kind of letter in Fairfax? Heads would roll! And PG County has actually been in the moderate zone (old CDC model) for awhile now. They are lower than we are!

UNCLENCH! Some people have a hard time with adapting.

It’s too bad FCPS won’t be able to implement a mask mandate when we go back into high in the future because of chap’s law; the cdc makes clear it is a useful tool to help combat Covid. It was pretty clear we were nearing a time we could take off masks but that they would be needed again in the future.

True, but we can now use the CDC info to inform ourselves about what we need to do to protect ourselves (and thereby lower community spread). I'm sure FCPS will be STRONGLY ENCOURAGING masks if/when cases (and hospitalizations) go back up. When the virus level goes up, FCPS feels it b/c teachers are out. When your kids' teachers are calling out sick, you should have the intelligence to start wearing a mask as a practical measure.

I am really sad that is one less power that Dr Scott has.

Just FYI -- the earliest Fairfax could have qualified under the "Low" category would have been Feb. 11th. I'm not sure if the hospitalization numbers would have qualified us for "Low" status, so it could have been later.

We for sure could not have qualified before Feb. 11th. And that's about the time I gave up on FCPS.

Much of Virginia DOES NOT qualify to go mask-optional now. Much of VA is still HIGH. Not surprising. I appreciate that their new map really shows who hasn't done what they were supposed to do regarding vaccinations. If you didn't vaccinate, your area has high spread and high hospitalizations. The map doesn't lie.

Yep! We get to enjoy the benefits of being highly vaccinated and having appropriate infrastructure. Too bad we elected Dumbkin

CDC just removed the suggestion masks be worn on buses. Does this change the public transport EO?

Piggy-backing on to ask . . . does this change anything for teachers who want to unmask? I guess we wait for another e-mail?

Fairfax is now in the Low/green category according to the CDC guidelines released today.

Just stop with the Dumbkin, the Obummer, the Sleepy Joe, the Cheeto, and all the other juvenile political nicknames you think (on both sides of the aisle!) are oh-so-clever. Let's be better. Or at least funnier.

always read the fine print:

"School systems at their discretion may choose to require that people wear masks on buses or vans."

I think FCPS will still require masks on buses -- if for no other reason than to keep the bus drivers happy/healthy. Losing even one bus driver creates a huge headache for a hundred kids or more. Frankly, I prefer that my kids keep wearing a mask on the buses b/c they are packed in tight. But, I'm fine with them dropping masks at school if they want. Of course, this contradiction is too much for some people to handle in their brains -- so CDC decided it was best to drop mask requirements altogether.
