FCPS new info on masks

Based on new CDC guidance released late Friday, FCPS is adjusting our roll back plan. Starting Tuesday, March 1, everyone, including staff, may choose whether or not to wear a mask in FCPS schools and buildings. Monday will be a day to prepare for this transition & get answers to questions.

See important details on our website ⤵️

Notice that they said "in schools and buildings". They did NOT say masks are optional in buses. I assume they will clarify that on Monday. But, I'm expecting masks to still be required in buses for a little while longer. And that's o.k. with me. The buses are VERY crowded and tight. Plus they are relatively short in duration compared to the whole school day.

But, you really have to learn to read carefully when getting emails from FCPS. They are very crafty about what is left unsaid.

Watch everyone show up without masks on the bus. They should just say continue to bring masks to school if you ride a bus.

My kids will have them in backpack for bus just in case.

Finally! I'm so happy, what a relief.

There are signs to be taken down.

Principals are already getting requests from parents to update IEPs with accommodations that their child cannot be near any students or staff that are unmasked. (Not going to fly, but the request needs to be addressed.)

Teachers have questions about parents who may request that their child be moved or directed to wear a mask. (Again, not going to happen.)

See the website notice in BIG LETTERS:

UNIVERSAL MASKING for ALL set for MARCH 1st!

Then in small print it says everyone will be allowed to make a choice whether or not they will wear a mask.

Kind of contradictory, FCPS!

I suspect the teachers will be given a script to read on Monday that STRONGLY ENCOURAGES EVERYONE to keep masking at ALL TIMES!

That said, I think it's fine for teachers who have immune problems to ask their students to wear masks (speaking about HS kids here). My DD said that one of her teachers has asked the class to keep masking b/c she has health issues and my DD is happy to comply. That's just being considerate.

My kid won't be wearing a mask on a bus. For god's sake, when will they just understand that MASKS AREN'T NECESSARY. It's like two steps forward, one step back.

Per the CDC, it’s not required on busses. But the CDC is now enemy #1 to these people, so who knows.

What on earth?? Why do they have it announced that way? They are just pathetically grasping at any hope of not looking like they lost.

Per CDC it's not required on buses, BUT CDC says districts can make their own rules on buses.

You have to read the WHOLE paragraph. Not just the part that makes you happy.

Us teachers have been told we can’t do that which is fine me. There is no script. I’m actually worried the admin will need reminders they can’t treat their staff like crap for not wearing a mask.

Taking down signs could take 20 mins max. It could be done before kids arrive at school.

Okay. Someone asked what needed to be done. That’s ONE task. The others will take some time and require guidance. Still means no masks will begin on Tuesday.

“Us teachers?” Please tell me you are not an English teacher.
