CPS cancels school after CTU voted to only work remotely

Because those adults are the parents of the schoolchildren you were so desperate to get back into in-person learning.

This is the equivalent of a strike and should be treated as such.

Starbucks doesn't even allow in-restaurant dining anymore. I went in to get a vanilla latte and they had little signs up on every table to that seating was 'closed'. It was get your drink and go.

Not in McLean. The high school kids have taken it over for the last five days.

Guess its just a D.C. thing.

Are children in grade school "trumpers"? Perhaps if grade school children marched in streets and engaged in supported vandalism and tax supported graffiti we would get these kids back in a classroom where they belong?

The stupidity on this issue is staggering. Selfish and stupid.

The sad thing is that these teachers are ONLY thinking about Covid.... and its very minimal risk to children.
They are not considering all the other risks to children by not having schools... depression, suicide, lack of reporting child abuse, and so many other consequences of closing in-peron learning.
It is very shortsighted and they are not doing what is best for kids.

^ I don’t think many people still think that teachers unions are looking out for the kids. They don’t even pretend to do that anymore. They’re looking out for themselves.

The sad thing is parents are confusing teachers with social workers.

Their job is to educate not to make sure your children are not suicidal at home. I believe that falls under parenting.

Oh, dear God.
Nobody said teachers are to make sure children are not suicidal.
You have totally missed the whole concept. School is as much social learning for children as it is for academics. There are consequences to a child's mental health when you essentially lock down children in their homes, forcing them in front of a screen for 4, 5, or 6 hours a day. Hell, just a year before Covid experts were telling parents to LIMIT screen time - now teachers are telling them to FORCE the children in front of the screen for hours at a time.
We know that remote learning is NOT working for the vast majority of children - particularly minority children and children who come from poverty.
These Chicago teachers are totally ignoring the science regarding Covid, the statistics around Covid, and the detrimental effects of not having children in schools.
Hopefully the parents in Chicago can find alternatives to public education for their kids and not have to continue to suffer the effects this union is forcing on them.
It's a damn shame when unions are running the schools.

(And, where is Joe "the union guy" to call out these teacher's unions?)

Light foot is standing up to the latest demands from the Union. Still not sure why union teachers don’t have to work when people who are exposed to kids daily from the lowliest daycare workers to pediatric heat surgeons can be exposed to kids.

Can someone explain.

I would like Biden, aka "the union guy" to have a few harsh words for the Chicago Teacher's union.

Biden, Psaki and the Secretary of Education have all spoken in support of Lightfoot

No kidding! And take away their salaries!!

Where’s a freaking mandate when you need one??! The right to education is a right that we all have. The teachers can quit if they don’t like their working conditions. And make sure they can never be hired again in the public school system in this country. Biden needs to shut up about vaccine mandates when he knows they’re illegal anyway and start talking about mandating teachers to be in the classrooms and do their jobs. He actually has the authority to do that and it will do a lot more good.

LOL Teachers vote. And why would he do that when parents are pulling their kids anyway? NYC is OPEN and less than 1/3rd of their student body is in attendance.

Minimal risk to children - but then there are the children who lost one or both parents, or grandparents, or others to COVID, and we know it can spread via the schools. Anyone who's had kids knows that kids are constantly bringing bugs home.

Look, it's a crisis either way. Either they stay home and get distance learning, and yes, have some struggles from it -

- or they go to school and risk catching it, risk spreading it to their family, their friends' family, whatever.

What you're saying is on its face logical and was the reason schools closed initially. But then schools were found to not be a significant source of transmission. So the data does not support your belief. https://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/volumes/70/wr/mm7004e3.htm
