CPS cancels school after CTU voted to only work remotely

In Chicago, CTU wanted to work remotely for two weeks, and voted to stay home tomorrow. Lori Lightfoot cancelled school instead of having remote school. Plus the buildings will be open for childcare. Not sure what the climate is in Chicago about remote school but this should be interesting for other major districts switching to remote. Lori Lightfoot seems determined not to cowtow to the union.

Good for the union. We know next to nothing about COVID and -- most importantly -- it's long-term effects on the human mind and human body -- vaccinations aside.

BTW -- Lightfoot is a political weakling. My bet is she loses this round.

How many billions did the schools get to enact safety measures, improve ventilation, and purchase supplies so they could be open and stay open?

The stats are not on the union's side.... kids don't contract the virus at school as much as they do at home.

IMO - the teachers should not get paid for this time off.

So are the teachers pledging to refrain from other in person activities as well? Will be curious to see if anyone tracks Covid rates among teachers teaching remotely vs. in person.

Ha! Most of them are just doing this to avoid work.

CTU is despised by the parents of Chicago.

...and people wonder how unions get a bad reputation, or why so many people are choosing to move out of dysfunctional Democratic strongholds.

Wow, what a stupid move by the union. Voting to go on strike for two weeks. What the heck were they thinking.

Yes that is obvious, but trying to assert the power to unilaterally decide whether school is open or not is a big move. They are attempting to eliminate "civilian" control of schools. In one fell swoop they have destroyed any reservoir of good will people had toward them.

Dp- reading this website has let me know that there was never any good will toward teachers.

I really tried to give the education unions a break earlier in my life. Now I think they are perhaps just, actually evil.
