Deaths and hospitalizations are VERY MUCH the pandemic of the unvaccinated. The shots are absolutely working to prevent covid deaths. It's too late for Kelly Ernby, but not too late for people like you to stop spreading misinformation.

It's not misinformation. This CDC report says that effectiveness of the Pfizer vaccine went from 80 perfect down to 33 percent for infections. They then recommend booster shots to increase the effectiveness.

My argument is that it is no longer a pandemic of the unvaccinated. The shots reduced effectiveness now require a booster shot to increase that.

Brief illness but was never hospitalized and was at home. Could she have been saved if she was hospitalized? Why are they not checking for clots or giving blood thinners etc?

Could she have been hiding the fact that she had COVID?

Anti facets try to power through. I’m sure she published that she was “gardening” to prove it’s nothing more than a cold. Bye Felicia!

Someone has to take care of the hill she chose to die on.

Kelly was opposed to COVID vaccine mandates and to other COVID restrictions (particularly beach closures in SoCal in 2020) throughout the pandemic. She was very vocal about those positions on Facebook and, no doubt, elsewhere. But believe me when I say that she was not a mindless Trump follower. She was smart, accomplished, and passionate. But ultimately misguided, and that has come with tragic consequences.

Kelly and I were poles apart politically and on COVID issues, but she was a good, decent person. Hard-working, committed to seeking justice for victims of crime (she was a Deputy DA in Orange County, CA), and genuinely compassionate. She was also loyal, had a great sense of humor, and was tons of fun to be around.

It's worth remembering that behind the public image of every "political" COVID casualty, there is a real person with family and friends. I am astounded that there are still people who refuse to get vaccinated (and Kelly was not vaccinated according to her husband, Mattias), but I take no pleasure if and when something terrible happens to those people. It's a tragedy every time. This one just happens to hit close to home for me.

RIP, Kelly. Gone much too soon. You'll be missed.

Thank you for this kind, humanizing post. I am very pro-vaccine and sometimes I find myself forgetting that people who hold dangerous positions like hers (meaning anti-vax) are still people with good qualities. I’m so horrified by what Trump and his followers have done to our democracy that I lump together everyone who thinks like them on any point, and my first reaction when I see a death like this is, “Oh well, they deserved it.” Obviously, that isn’t true and I need to work on it.

Your argument is stupid. You anti-vaxxers argued for months that case counts didn't matter and what mattered was deaths and hospitalizations because "covid is like a cold or flu for everyone except the elderly and fat". Now you want to claim that deaths and hospitalizations don't matter, and what matters is case counts. You are full of horse-s-it.

If the argument is stupid then why is there a big push for booster shots? Why is it becoming required to return to college campuses now?

It's not really a choice when your "choice" affects others in your community.

BECAUSE LOTS OF VACCINES REQUIRE 3-5 DOSES TO BE FULLY EFFECTIVE. In fact, the flu vaccine requires annual doses.

We are constantly learning more about COVID. There's no way to predict if it will require annual booster, or maybe just 3 or 4 doses in total. Maybe 6. We don't know yet because it's a "novel virus" we've never seen before.

What is happening in your brain that you are not able to comprehend this?

I feel terrible saying this but how much could someone this dumb really contribute?

I’m annoyed we waste valuable medical resources on these Covidiots. Trump told them to get the vaccine but they are so brainwashed to hate science. It’s hopeless but she probably infected others which pisses me off.

I have to admire your commitment to BS conservative talking points, even on a thread dedicated to a 46 year old white antivaxxer who just died of covid. Your fact-free bubble really is impenetrable.

My heart breaks for her family and loved ones. Recently I saw a 31 year old woman I followed on instagram died of COVID, leaving behind her 4 year old son and husband and her classroom of elementary school students. I dont know her vaccination status or if she had a preexisting condition, but it hit me hard. I never even met her, but the thought of leaving behind a 4 year old ripped through me. And now I am thinking of this woman. I am sure she had family and friends who begged her to get vaccinated and now they are left to grieve and wonder what more they could have done. I just crumble thinking of the families left behind.

Here's a shocking finding:

One U.S. child loses a parent or caregiver for every four COVID-19 deaths, a new modeling study published today in Pediatrics reveals. The findings illustrate orphanhood as a hidden and ongoing secondary tragedy caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and emphasizes that identifying and caring for these children throughout their development is a necessary and urgent part of the pandemic response – both for as long as the pandemic continues, as well as in the post-pandemic era.

https://www.nih.gov/news-events/news-releases/more-140000-us-children-lost-primary-or-secondary-caregiver-due-covid-19-pandemic

Based on the current death total of 828K, approximately 207,000 American children have lost a parent or a caregiver. That's over 200,000 American kids likely suffering from huge emotional trauma. That trauma will take years to play out and heal. Decades of mental health services will be needed for these kids.

It's shocking.

The amount of hate toward this woman on this thread is appealing. I hope Jeff will remove it entirely. We had 60,00-100,000 people in US dying from blood clots every year prior to Covid. My grandmother died because of a blood clot. I honestly don't care what other viruses those hundred of thousands of people had at the time of their death (HPV, Aids, flu, herpes, or any other possible virus on the Earth). We should not be joyfully celebrating these deaths and try to use one death out of hundreds of thousands to make our politically motivated point. I am honestly very embarrassed for the people from my party commenting on this thread.

I just found out that she died of a blood clot while gardening. She was clearly feeling well enough to garden so it wasn't severe covid.

People die of blood clots EVERY DAY.

I kind of agree with the bold part.
