I'm truly sorry that you tested positive, but this is likely just life going forward. We can't keep shutting down schools particularly with vaccines having widespread availability. Assuming you are vaxxed you should be fine (and don't need to quarantine though I understand you may want to).

What kind of batshit crazy "advice" is this? OF COURSE you need to quarantine if you tested positive. JEEZ.

Do people actually think you shouldn't quarantine if you test positive?? Please help keep our community safe and quarantine if you test positive (also stay home if you are sick as a general rule).

Also, while the risk may be low if you are vaxxed, there still IS a risk.

Ahhh, sorry pp here. I misread the timing - thought she tested positive early last week

It doesnt sound like kids are required to take them. So its not really a test to return (or stay for that matter). Repsonsible parents will do it but the rest...I wouldnt count on it.

..huh? because that will make them safe from covid at schools?

Oh the opposite. Because school is closed. They will still intermingle with kids and teachers.

And now they’re intermingling with a different group of kids and teachers. Or people will be asking relatives (some elderly) to provide childcare. Because many parents have to go to work and have already stretched themselves with time off over the winter break. The backup nanny class will be just fine, but the rest can eat cake.

Yes that’s the problem, if we mean the same thing. They will catch cases but generate new ones by forcing people into less desirable childcare solutions. These kids aren’t quarantining. School is the safest place for children.

If this was test to return I would say too bad this is more important. But this is some shame of an idea.

You all need to learn the difference between quarantine (not required for vaxed people who get exposed unless they find out they are positive) and isolation (required for anyone, vaccinated or not, who tests positive). It's actually useful to have two different terms to avoid the confusion of the first PP.

Yes teacher who posted up thread here; urgent care was very clear 10-14 day quarantine (especially since I’m symptomatic). Really sucks

That is exactly what I meant. This is a big undertaking that is unlikely to move the needle. Sure it will catch some cases, but unless people are forced to come home a few days in advance from travel and isolate during the testing period, it’s like trying to empty the beach of sand one bucket at a time. And in the interim making life even harder for those already hardest hit. While also not really creating any mandatory requirement of the people who have never sacrificed to begin with.

And they've already got protocols to report it. This maybe makes it easier for charter kids because there will be more tests available (via the libraries).

Ours also just made this announcement.

You mean "isolation". It's not called a "quarantine" if you have tested positive. Quarantine is for people who are exposed and don't know yet if they are infected. It's possible that even the urgent care misused the term.

It's not going to be virtual learning, thank goodness. It's a two-day extension of winter break. I can live with that, but we don't need childcare. It will certainly creates childcare issues for many, while giving others the opportunity to extend their vacations. So I doubt it will do much in terms of Covid prevention.

Testing is not required.

So the people who behave responsibly and are less likely to have and spread COVID will test. And the people who behave irresponsibly and are more likely to have and spread COVID will not test.

I just didn't understand why they don't make it mandatory.

Ding ding ding! This exactly….

They can’t require testing because it punishes the stupid who can’t get vaccinated and can’t avoid high risk traveling. The only kids testing will be the kids who are vaccinated and avoided travel during the holiday… the least likely to be positive.
