That's an absurd statement. Total nonsense.

Not PP, but TJHSST wasn't created for educational purposes. It was created for marketing purposes by the county Board of Supervisors when the BOS was controlled by Republicans courting west coast defense contractors to rent space in suburban office parks.

Then, of course, once created it became something for some kids to aim for, and eventually mostly a place that just kids of one ethnicity aimed for.

You say this as if it's a bad history, an evil history. Creating a magnet school isn't a bad thing, courting businesses with schools isn't a bad thing. Republicans are pro-education at the local level and are generally excellent stewards.

The bolded has never been true, at least with respect to public education.

You must be in a teacher's union. Democratic controlled public schools are the worst in the country by far. Wake up.

You must be a Fox News viewer. Those schools under-perform because they're in under-resourced urban neighborhoods and are largely populated by folks who can't afford to supplement their child's education with extras outside the school building. Go back to sleep.

Nice deflection, but wrong. First, it appears you agree that the worst performing schools are controlled by Democrats. Good for you. Here is a nice article that tries to explain why funding is not the issue. Democrats have had 50 years to try to tackle the underlying problem and are still failing miserably. https://www.theatlantic.com/education/archive/2018/01/what-school-funding-debates-ignore/551126/

The title screams propaganda. Can you give something that isn't about politics?

It points out the fallacy that inter city schools are less funded and demonstrates that the Democrats are at the helm. Please look at it to educate yourself.

Yes, the GOP has always hated public education and would shut it all down if they could. In fact, they're against anything that doesn't benefit the 1%.

TJ may have issues but for some kids it was the best option available. And talk about diversity - maybe not the PC version of diversity but my kid learned how what it was like and how to operate as a minority.

+1

Thank you and congratulations to your child. Being inclusive means many things and one of the most important issues for kids is to make the sports team. At many other schools kids are losing out that opportunity.

Typical liberal BS that forgets the "argument" part of a debate. You need some facts, or stats, or something to back up your conclusion. There aren't any you can point to because they do not exist. You are just full of crap,

Yes, the only thing they'd choose to spend taxes on are protecting the property of their wealthy benefactors (owners).

Please use this thread to post positives about TJ which has many. If you are critical of TJ kids, there are quite a few other threads that you can spread your hatred, rumors and innuendos.

One doesn’t have to have children, or children at TJ, to have a deep understanding of the environment at TJ.

Having been a child at TJ should be enough.

If you have never been a child at TJ, and instead have only heard about the version of TJ that your kids want to let you know about, kindly take a seat. You don’t know what you’re talking about, and you never will.

+100000000. There are many things about the TJ environment that are wonderful - especially if you are a part of the dominant ethnic group - but the version of it that kids present to their parents is highly sanitized and in most cases, the kids have no idea that what they are doing is problematic.

Maybe your kid does that.. Not mine. And several that we know.

I don't have kids. I was a TJ kid and I know for a fact that TJ kids do this on a regular basis. I am literally laughing out loud right now at "my kid doesn't do that". You have absolutely no way of knowing whether or not your kid presents a version of reality that pleases you rather than what is more truthful. Sit with that for a while. Your child wants to please you - this should not be surprising.

I swear - TJ parents are some of the most deluded people on earth, not only about their own children but about the world that they inhabit. Wake up.

"absolutely" is a strong word. Not everyone's relationship with their kids is founded on the same assumptions. Similarly, not every parent tortures their kids so as to compel abjection.

Throwing away all other context, here's the fallacy in all online political discussions:

If we pick any one reasonable, intelligent person, their opinions are necessarily a blend of multiple political ideologies. They do stand for things that are good, even if that's in apparent contradiction to some abhorrent politics which they could hypothetically stand for.

Meanwhile, if we're talking about Democrats or Republicans as a rival body, we're definitely only taking into account the dumbest outer shell of the group.

Whenever you hear two people argue about which side sucks and which one doesn't, both are simultaneously completely right and completely missing the point.

Yes, everyone who is remotely familiar with American politics knows the GOP is hostile to public education and would end it tomorrow if they could. In general, they only care about what their wealthy donors want and that involves paying less taxes for things like schools that benefit the middle class and poor.

I mean, it is a strong word that is intended to convey the point. You don't know and there is no way for you to know. TJ doesn't allow the level of parent access that would be necessary to actually have an idea of what your kid's day is like every day, especially under these circumstances.
