This coming year’s NNAT/CogAT

Guessing too soon to even ask, but has there been any talk yet on if kids would take NNAT/CogAT from home if distance learning or would they skip this year? Seeing posts on these tests seeming to have been discounted in some cases b/c possible prep, would presume similar discounting would happen if take in homes.

hahaha if taken in homes, 75% of kids are going to have their parents take it for them (and still get a 120 or below)

This just in- distance learning proven a success when every first grade receives perfect score on NNAT!

Hopefully this question is clarified soon. They have to find a way to test these kids otherwise, this cohort of students wont have a way into AAP unless they change the entry criteria.

Why does it have to be clarified “soon?” What exactly is the rush? School doesn’t even start for 7 weeks.

The logistics of standardized testing administered to thousands of children across the county who are DL probably takes some planning. Waiting until the last minute to figure out how to do this safely and effectively is not a good idea.

Sure. But this isn’t a forum for FCPS central office and administrators. All of those things can be happening right now. This post is for parents and states that it should be clarified, meaning it should be communicated. No parent here is entitled to know what the exact or even partial plan for testing is in the middle of July.

safely doesn't matter- building are closed, so it will have to be remote. This is for second graders, so good luck with effectively. I'm guessing people will be changing permissions on their macs before DD or DS takes the test - specifically denying the browser access to the webcam or microphone.

I want to know now if school will administer a CogAT. If not, I want to book at GMU for a CogAT ASAP.

The schools will have to offer the tests or change their admission criteria.

They could possibly offer tests by appointment at the school (but some wouldn't feel safe to enter the buildings, some families will be out of town, some won't be able to get to the school).
Then they would have to go by report cards, work samples, and GBRS. How is a teacher going to do GBRS for all distance learning?

That is my concern as well. And if I homeschool. My kid won’t be able to get GBRS from her teacher. Will that put her at a disadvantage when applying for AAP?

they should just postpone it for a year.

They should just have this cohort wait until 3rd grade to test and start AAP in 4th grade.
